I have a little job to clear all the IMPORTANT files on a dell server.I would like to know what to do to clear all the data and leave the server intact with no personal info on it.
Thanks

Most applications require booting from a CD, then overwriting the hard disk one or more times over. -
how is that done?

Actually, use the link below to download the ISO file. Burn it *as an ISO* to CD (you can use something free like ImgBurn for this), pop it in the server, then select the option to boot from a different device using the BIOS.

so a server using windows does not work or look like a regular windows xp pc?

I have a question, which was brought to my mind after seeing several threads where people were looking for (possibly legitimate) ways to reset BIOS passwords, etc. and were shot down point blank.
In the days of increasing lay-off rates and unemployment, is it really such a great idea to tell someone how to nuke a server? Did it ever occur to ya'll that he may have just gotten laid-off, and might want to do this as payback to his employer? Just sayin...
I guess this could also apply to threads where people are asking how to format, etc. They may be trying to get back at a boy/girlfriend who just dumped them.
Where's the line? Where is it drawn, and does it need to be moved?
I say yes. These sorts of instructions should not be given out either, as this could destroy someone's business or just a whole lot of personal data (irreplaceable pics, etc). Food for thought...
I say if they need to learn these techniques, they need to learn Google first...
OT: Sweet! When did I become a Notebook Consultant? Sounds official-like...lol... -
Formatting is common knowledge in my opinion. I use DBAN before I RMA, sell, or reinstall windows. Just makes life a bit easier for clean up and security. If the OP can gain access after a lay off and use this information, that is on his conscience. Server is essentially a regular PC with specialized components and workings. A bootable CD will be universal to most any system you try to use it in.
Don't know where to put this?
