Saw this on the outlet for 819...seems like a great price but then I see some with smaller drives and just a CD writer for 849..are some of these older higher priced models that are still being put up for sale or am I missing something?

Well there is a difference depending on what you are looking at. If it is scratch or dent or sold new then it is more expensive than a refurbished machine.

I've also read that the outlet price is a percentage of the original configuration price. So that would explain why some deals are hot (perhaps it was a return from someone who ordered with a 24% corporate link) and others are stone cold.

Price for the outlet is dependant on how long the individual system is in the building, along with what software / sales type it is.

Dells prices for there dell outlet are crazy... They don't make sense. What you should do is just keep looking every day for about a week. Find a killer deal and buy it! I have seen Celeron laptops in dell outlet going for over 1k. Then I have seen PM 2.0ghz going for $800.
