Dang do i love dell due to these great deals they come up with. This will be my first laptop. I am in my 2nd year at UC santa barbara and I hope to enjoy using this laptop. I had to use my desktop my 1st year and it just doesnt cut it any more. I mean its still fast and i love it bits but its hard trying to get work done at night when your roommate is sleeping and you cant just pick up your computer and leave. So to all you college kids out there i swear a laptop is a must. The library is also a must. So in short Laptop + library = happy studying.

So im just waiting for my laptop to get here now. once it does i'll be sure to give you all my thoughts on how well it is suited for a college student.

O i do have a question though.. this should go under teh gaming secion but i'll just ask. My desktop is a P4 2.8 ghz Oc'ed to 3.2 with a ati 9800 se. I havnt been looking at vid cards in the past years so i dont know where my old card stands now a days. So i guess im asking how much will I like the X1400 over my nearly 4 year old desktop for gaming.

If ur putting it on the gaming point of view, u'll like ur desktop better. The X700 stands up 2 the 9800. And the X1400=X600. Therefore the X600 is not as good as the X700 so the X1400 won't stand up 2 the 9800. Juz keep gaming on ur desktop, u'll appreciate it more. Do slight but not hardout gaming on ur laptop.

Hope I made myself clear, Daniel

Actually I have a different point of view which involves your memory! I think you heard of ATi hypermemory tech. which uses extra ram as video memory and if you have 1GB and the game is taking up900MB w/ hypermemory active your going to hear a naughty hard drive but then again this all depends on what type of game you play but Juz_Follow_ATI is right about the difference in performance.

Thanks for finally joining the forums.
The 9800SE is not the best performer - unlike the normal Radeon 9800, the 9800SE has half the memory bandwidth so performance suffers. Your X1400 should be similar to it in performance.

O hmm i thought the new card would be better since I had the SE card. Athough its good to know that I will still be able to play all the games I play now. I don't play the newer games so i think i'm set for now. I mainly play CS:s, DOD:s, star craft, i have BF2 but i dont play it much. So i think the X1400 we do just fine. Thanks for the input.
