    Hi,

like many people, my Studio 1555 MB is dead in less than 3 years. GPU failure (6 beeps). I had the ATI chip.

I'm looking to replace the motherboard by buying one on ebay. Since I don't need the 1555 for gaming and will probably try to sell it, I though about buying a replacement MB that has the Intel chip instead, to save money on that dead horse.

From what I read on the internet, the swap should be flawless, but I'm asking here since I always trusted this forum!

So, will the D177M MB work in my 1555?

    Thanks!

you will also need to get the correct cooler for your new mainboard so in the end you might be close to the same price as dedicated graphics....

Assuming that you have an OEM version of Windows, you will likely have to buy a new copy of Windows due to changing the motherboard. OEM Windows is tied to the motherboard in the laptop. If you change your motherboard with another of the exact model, then your OEM Windows should still work, but you indicated that you plan to downgrade to a different model of motherboard, so in that case, I don't think your OEM Windows will function with the new motherboard. If you do make this change, and Windows won't work, you could try calling Microsoft and explain that you changed the motherboard to a different model because the original one malfunctioned. If they are in a good mood, thay may issue a new product key to you.
