I noticed while configuring a inspiron 9400 (e1705) that it comes with a draft n internal wireless card, has anyone used this card yet? It should preform better and be backwards compatable, right?

Draft N is backwards compatible - It will perform much better paired with a Draft-N router.

I have this card and let's just say my Wireless Connection 1 is constantly disabled.

It is backwards compatible to an extend. If you have an old wireless router like me (or just a TRENDNet, tech support say they've had trouble with TRENDNets for years), you either will need a new router or a different connection.

Right now on my notebook, I constantly just use usb wifi (I already had it and would return the laptop but I got the notebook at a really nice price(for complaining) (at least for buying in Canada))

Out of five routers, I could only connect to one and be able to get a good connection. Its signal strength is always strong (54mbps) but it just lags terribly that I can't even load dell.ca.

My own router - 1~2 year old trendnet, nope
My friend's router - another trendnet, nope
another friend's router - forgot brand, nope
open network around above friend's place - nope, either the above or this one is a d-link or linksys i forgot
another friend's router - yes, his router was pretty new though.

Personally, if I were to choose, I'd get the Intel internal wireless.

Rutagur - how long have you had your machine? have you checked for updated drivers?

Before I got my computer, I had read about some incompatibility issues with the Dell Draft N wireless card. Mine was built in late december and I have had no isssues connecting with my home network or public networks that I have run into around the country. At my work, we have a Belkin Pre-N router - this was supposed to have some of the worst compatibility problems - and I can even connect to this without any problems.

I've only had my notebook for two weeks (arrived January 25/07). I tried updating the drivers, even firmware but still nothing.

Two weeks later and I'm still using my usb wifi, doesn't bother me that much since it is a desktop replacement and I don't carry it around a lot.

I have the Draft N in my Dell 1505 that I received in October. My router is a Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 High Power router. I logged onto the router the day I got the machine and it has been online, and fast (after a few tweaks with DrTCP) ever since. It is definately backward compatible with G. My connect speeds top out at 54mbps...but the download speed of my wireless is faster than my gigabit LAN card build into my desktop board. Make sure that you got the November driver updates for this card...once done...it will no longer show up in Device Manager as Dell Draft N, but Broadcom N adapter
