My cdRW dvd combo drive doesn't work well. I have to restart the computer with the dvd in the drive for the system to acknowledge that it is there. This really sucks for games that take 2 cd's to install. HELP!!!

    Hi Andrew,
I'm afraid your going to have to send it back for warranty repair.
I use to be a big Dell notebook fan, but all the friends I recommended get a Dell have had all kinds of problems with their systems the last 2 years...and boy I have not heard the end of it from them[B)]

Before sending it in I would undo the GPU cooling mod that I heard you had done; they will use that deny a warranty claim.

Good luck, and hope the repair is quick and costless.

Its kinda hard to undo that mod, i threw away the old pads[ :(] The drive is modular, so couldn't I just send that back? Why would they have to open up the computer?

Phew, it looks like i don't have to bring Dell into this. I reformatted my hard drive and it works just fine. I have heard of problems where Cyberlink Powerdvd (shipped with Dell Inspirons) attempts to launch anything inserted into the drive. Since it is a buggy program (just look at the Dell forums) It crashes and doesn't allow anything else to use the drive. I am definitely not reinstalling it.

Also, Andrew, Dell is pretty good about sending parts to owners that are easy to replace (in case you did need a new player and were worried about your mods)
