I'm trying to download the drivers for my E1505 laptop from Dell's support page, some of these drivers come with multiple downloads that make things a little confusing. Just trying to figure out which drivers I shoud get.

Applications: Obvious Dell MediaDirect Repair Utility & Dell Quickset are needed. What about Sonic Solutions DLA 5.x? Is this recommended?
    -Dell MediaDirect Repair Utility
    -Dell QuickSet
    -Sonic Solutions DLA 5.x

Network Drivers: I have the IntelĀ® PRO 3945 and Dell 350 Bluetooth Internal Wireless Cards. Dell's Network Drivers pages lists the following downloads, which driver or drivers should I get?
    -Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller
-Dell Wireless (Except US,Japan) WLAN Card
    -Dell Wireless (Japan) WLAN Card
    -Dell Wireless (US) WLAN Card
    -Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN MiniCard
-Dell Wireless 1490 Dual-Band WLAN MiniCard
-Dell Wireless 350 Bluetooth Internal Module
    -Intel Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection

Video Driver: I have the ATI X1400 video card, so obvious I'll need the X1400 driver, but do I also need to download and install the Intel 945GM Graphics Controller?
    -ATI Radeon Mobility X1300
    -ATI Radeon Mobility X1400
    -Intel 945GM Graphics Controller

Communication Drivers: It shows both a "Driver" and an "Application" for modem download. Should I get both or just the driver?

Diagnostic Utilities: Is this download recommended?

    You input will be appreciated.

You're correct. You won't need the Sonic Solutions seeing as how it'll be installed if you install the Sonic software.

    Intel(r) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network
Dell Wireless 350 Bluetooth Internal Module
    Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller

ATI Radeon Mobility X1400. The Intel is for the integrated graphics card, of which you don't have.

Driver for sure. Not quite positive about the application. Sorry.

    Yes

Thanks a lot! It really helps! I guess I should just abandon my Resource CD (which also confuses me) and download all the drivers on Dell Support page instead.

I thought the Resource CD was pretty fool-proof. It had checkmarks next to all the drivers I needed to load and away I went. The only driver that needed updating on my disk was the Synaptics touchpad driver. The one on Dell was a couple of months newer.

The Resource CD I received didn't auto detect E1505 as the model number (it lists the model as MM061, some said it's the correct model, but it's confusing to begin with). Also the Resource CD has X1300 checked instead of X1400 (which is what I have).

The Broadcom Integrated Controller download page shows a link for " Driver" and " Diagnostics Utility", should I get both or just the driver?

Driver. If you're having problems with it, then download the diagnositcs to see what's wrong.

The only necessary component is the driver.

Do I only need to flash BIOS once? For instance, if I flash BIOS, then later I delete my partition and reformat/reinstall operating system, will I have to flash BIOS again?

    Thanks.

After I installed all the drivers and software, I noticed the battery icon (it indicates the percentage of the remaining battery life) that used to appear on the lower right corner was no longer there. I did install Dell Quickset but the battery icon still wouldnt' appear. Did I do something wrong? How can I get the battery icon back?

    Thanks.

I'm pretty sure you have to go to the power management settings and check something so that it will show up in the taskbar. Go to Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > Power Options > Advanced > Always show icon on taskbar.

I think the Broadcom driver is for the network card (which I think it's required), and the conexant modem obviously is for the modem. Strangely, when I tried the drivers from the Dell Resource CD, it didn't have the Broadcom driver checked.

Same sort of 'strageness' here too... Under Topic 'My System' the Broadcomm driver was not listed, but, if I selected ' Drivers', it was....

    Go figure...

I believe you need the Ricoh R5C832 chipset under Chipset and the Conexant D110 HDA MDC v92 modem driver under Communication.

Don`t worry to much for not getting a drivers cd, i got mine and it doesn't help to much, it does't mark all necesary drivers you need and it doen't even present the e1505 or the 6400 as a system option!! i don't know if only my cd is wrong but it's absoluty useless, i downloaded all my drivers better.

yeah, the Dell Resource CD is really weird, it doesn't list the notebook model number correctly, instead it'd detect E1505 as "MM061". I later found out this was the right CD because it matched the BIOS number on my computer during boot-up. BTW, P/N UD526 is the right Dell Resource CD for E1505. Thought this might help.

I have a Dell Vostro 1500 with 1490 wireless card, running on Win XP Pro. But I cannot find a driver for the wireless card, there's none on the Dell site, or maybe I didnt see it. At Vostro surely is none. Can somebody help me please? Has somebody a driver or a link from where I can download it?
