Ok well I reformatted my new E1705 today. Everything went smoothly and it's now running much more smoothly than it was before.
The driver install seems to be the most challenging part. I installed a bunch from the Drivers and Utilities disk that I received with it. However, there were a few drivers I couldn't get off the disk (network, video, and something called "BCM2045"). I went on the Dell website and used a pen drive to install the wireless and 7900 GS drivers. Here is a screenshot of what my Device Manager looks like now. It looks like there are two drivers missing, but I don't know what they go to or what that hardware does. I don't seem to be having any issues with the system, either.
Could someone just tell me where I can get these drivers or what they're for?

okay well the first one is easy - you need your communications driver (dial up modem).

second one - do you have a Bluetooth chip?

LOL, we must have posted at the same time. I did a search on the BCM one, and everything seems to point to bluetooth.

Ok, I'm currently downloading the driver for the communications.

As for the other one, yes, I did order the Intel Pro Wireless card with Bluetooth, but I'm not sure what driver under Networking goes with it. There are two that look like a possibility so I'll give them a try and see if it works. Thanks for the help!

Also, does anyone know if the E1705 is supposed to have a bettery meter utility?
Is that something I need to re-install or what?

I don't know which you have either. The BCM2045 is very limited as far as what google tells me. At the same time, XP has drivers, so I searched on dell for a bit.

There was one other user that had a similar problem. He fixed it by installing the network drivers (wifi driver) from the website, and not the disc - so that is another option.

As for the battery meter - what kind do you want? If you install Quickset, you can do FN + F3 and that will show a battery meter. You also have one on the bottom of your laptop on the battery it self - just press the little circle with the battery in it. XP also has the option to have the battery meter visible in your systray which can be enable in power management in the control panel.

Sorry that I can't give more help on the drivers.

I had the exact same issue. Downloading and installing the Intel Pro Wireless driver solved the "Other Devices" problem.
