I reinstalled vista to get rid of all the bloatware, and all went good. Then I put in my drivers disc and reinstalled my drivers, and restarted. Then I turned the computer back on, and opened dell webcam center, and it says

"No supported webcam driver detected. Please install the webcam driver using the Dell Resource CD and launch Webcam Center again."

I put the driver disc back in and did it again to make sure it worked, and I'm still getting the same error. What should I do? Do I need to go online and update and get the drivers?

    Somebody help that person please...

That is exactly what I'm afraid of if I reinstall the OS. So I might just forgo that step and use the control panel to delete stuff.

There's got to be a solution here... I haven't found it yet, but I'm sure I'm just missing it, because I really am no expert at this.

I'm thinking of doing a clean installation of Windows Vista when I get my Inspiron 1520 on Monday. Hopefully we can fix this problem so by time I get my notebook, I'll know how to solve it as well.

Have you tried searching for the driver online?

When you first installed the drivers, did you wait until all the drivers were installed before restarting?

I may face this same problem as well. I hope that edcgoldguru can be helped.
    and to Illini Pride:
download ccleaner and use it to uninstall things (using the tools tab on the left). It is much faster.

I'm pretty sure I found the driver on dell.com. Give me 10 minutes and I'll tell you if it worked. It was very easy to reinstall and get all that crap off there, so if this works, I wouldn't be worried about doing it.

The system is already running so much faster.

    That's good to hear.

At least this isn't an extremely major issue. I'm sure we will find a solution to it rather quickly.

I can't figure out whats going on. Everything is downloading so slow. It has timed out trying to download the driver 3 times. I was downloading an office trial also and it was going to take like 3 hours. It's downloading the driver at around 100kb/sec. What's the deal, this is ridiculous.

    it worked....

but... somehow something on my virus protection got erased. It's just avg, so I'll just re-install that, and it should be no problem.

All the drivers you need are available at support.dell.com

The creative video cam driver is under "applications"

I'd suggest getting drivers from the website rather than using the disk to reinstall as newer drivers will be updated on the website (at least later, since these laptops just came out there aren't new drivers out yet). Its just a good habit to have.

If I install the drivers from the CD first, I can always go online later on and re-install the new ones right? Will I need to uninstall the old ones to update?
