I have the CD (included in the package) to install all these drivers and utilities, but I dont know which one to install. The CD contains drivers for the 1720 in general, that means there are extra drivers that you dont need.

    Serial ATA Drivers
Intel Matrix Storage Manager - Notebooks Rev: A02

    System Utilities
    Dell Notebook System Software Rev:A00

    Video Drivers

    Lumanate TVT8 : USB External NTSC-ATSC Combo TV Tuner Rev:A00 (V32)
    nVidia G84 Rev:A02

This is all the drivers that's listed in the CD.

Sidenote: Dell has the turbo memory (Robson) built in if you check the Bios under "Flash cache module". When reinstalling the OS, disable that and choose ATA in "SATA Operations". If you dont, it will hang. Do this beforehand before installing the OS. Do NOT return them to their original state after completing the installation. I did it, and windows couldnt load. Although I'm wondering how can I restore them back without having any problems?

grr that CD is useless. After one successful install and a reboot. Its suppose to show a check mark next to the driver, but it doesn't. how do I know if it really installed the driver or not?

I just did a clean install of Vista Ultimate and everything is working great.

    Here is what I have

    T7500
    256MB 8600M GT DDR2
    4GB RAM
    320GB (160GB x 2)
    17'' (1920 x 1200)
    Vista Ultimate

I have also tried loading Vista Business and it needs the same things.

If you are doing a clean install, you will need to click the link "Load Drivers" during the Hard Disk definition screen. That will load the AHCI driver so you won't hang during the install. It took me 1 whole day to figure this one out.

After Vista boots and is up and running, don't be connected to the internet or Vista tries to load it's stuff but you want to load the Dell drivers first.

I download the drivers from Dell instead of using the CD

I installed the following in this order.

    Intel Mobile Chipset
Intel Turbo Memory (if you plan on using ReadyBoost)
Intel Matrix Storage Manager - Notebooks
    nVidia GeForce 8400M GS
    Ricoh R5C833
    Dell Touchpad

The only rub I have is Vista 32 only sees 3.5gb ram.

If you have any questions, email me directly if you like

    Good luck!
