The Dell Driver Downloads page for Studio 1555 still doesn't have Windows 7 32 Bit listed. I tried editing the url for Windows 7 64 bit by replacing W764 with W732 and it seems that is the appropriate page.

Its still a work in progress and doesn't have some of the drivers (webcam being the significant one). Following is the link:

That link took me to Vista 32 instead of Windows 32.

How come you guys aren't using Windows 7 64-bit?

I'm not familiar with x64 version.
    Will it occupy more memory?
Does all program run well ?
Did you notice any problems with X64 on dell studio 1555 ?

At first I was worried about program compatibility, too, but I have actually not had any issues installing or using my old 32-bit programs on it. Even DOGA (a very old but super easy 3D rendering program) works. The only problem I've had so far is the Media Center isn't working for me (not a big deal).

According to the Windows website, 32-bit needs 16 GB and 64 needs 20gb.

I mean about free memory on 32 bit OS vs. 64 bit OS.
For example, my desktop have 512 Mb ram. I tuneed Xp so it needs only 240 Mb memory on normal use.

Yes, most of them are compatible with both 64-bit and 32-bit. When you download any 64-bit driver and execute the EXE, it pops up a message listing the compatible OS's (whether 32 or 64). I am on my desktop right now otherwise I would have told you exactly which ones are 32-bit supported.

If I'm not wrong there is a drop down box too in the driver detail page where you can see if its 32 or 64-bit compatible, or both.

Btw, when 1555 is fully 64-bit compatible, why are you using 32-bit OS?

Did you order a 32-bit version OS DVD with your laptop? If yes, either live with it or ask Dell to send a 64-bit version to you. They may charge a bit extra for that.

Thats correct. You'll probably have to wait for 32-bit Bluetooth drivers for 1555.

I play a lot of games (only newer ones released in 08-09) and none of them had any problems on win7 x64.

Programs? i doubt you would face any problem. You may face problems with finding drivers for any old hardware if you have.

In short, I haven't faced any problem till date which is related to my OS being 64-bit. And if you do, there is solution for everything on the internet.

How many ram (if you have 4 GB) does win 7 x64 need versus win 7 x32 in normal work (Word, Photoshop, Visual studio,Mathematica 7...)
    Thanks

I'm running 64 bit win7 and installed the webcam using the 64 bit driver which worked fine. Couldn't get Dell to send the software that came with my computer in 64 bit and tech support said webcam central was part the driver package which is wasn't. Ended up installing the program from the 32 bit disc and it worked perfectly.
