I was wondering if it would be better to wait a month or so before buying an Inspiron 8600 since the release of the 735, 745, and 755 PM processors is quite recent. Also, do you guys think there are more promotions during the months of June-August at Dell?

    Thanks

There are always promotions, literally. Each week they just move the offers around.I don't think the price of these new processors is going down soon, since the 755 is costing about $500 and has been for a while.

    Like andrew siad,
ther are always promotions, but as far as deals go I don't think the good deals will be around until after school starts. Before school starts there will be promos, but no good deal as this is the high demand time of the year and when demand is high so are prices.

The price of the 700 series of PM will come down in price, but heck they have only been available for 3 weeks. The higher the cpu speed the longer it will hold it's price...Probably through summer. You should see some more price drops on the old pentium M CPU by then as well.

I know it isn't a notebook processor, but compare the dothan to the AMD FX-53. It came out months ago at $800, and it is still $800. The Dothan 2 ghz is the Intel flagship, so it will probably hold the same way.
If you want to get it cheap, choose Dell. The offers change often, but about once a month, they will take away a lot of the freebies and instead give a huge discount coupon (ie 20% like on memorial day). Wait until that comes, and then you will just be spending on the things that you want. Probably soon after you order yours, you sill see an offer that appears better, but if you configure identically, the price is identical. The only price drops on entire models appear when a newer version appears (ie 5100 vs 5150). Good luck in your decision.

if you buy a dell buy it no later than first week of August. This week deals are great with Free DVDburner shipping and $150 off there are codes out there for another $100-200 off you have to search for them. IE 8600 with dvd burner etc $1200 get the WSVGA screen for all 15.4 widescreen, fo little weight get 600m at 5 pounds plus you get parts on EBay but not cover by extended warranty if get it, only good if you order with laptop and more than 1 year. I recommend getting extended warranty if carry and toss you laptop at school or work I find they tend to have problems about year and half later so you get screw with 1 year warranty.
