My dog recently knocked my Dell Studio off the desk, and it landed on the side, damaging the power button (picture below). Obviously this isn't covered by my Dell warranty (I didn't purchase the accidental damage policy).

I'm moderately techie, but have never worked on a laptop before. I'm wondering if this could be repaired myself. I realize there may be unknown damage besides the power button (hard drive, etc), but I'd like to give it a shot.

I found the Dell instructions on replacing the power control... Documentation

And I found some on ebay...

But I'm wondering if that's all I need. That doesn't seem to include the actual power button.

If this gets beyond what I'm able to repair, would a local shop or Dell Out of Warranty support be my best option?

    Thanks!

Ouch, is the Studio still in warranty? I would send it off to Dell for an estimate, but we had a Studio 15" adunno the model with the same problem and Dell wanted 450 for the repair, dunno how much yours will be..

Fix it as best you can, so it at least looks remotely OEM...then give Dell Warranty a call! ;)

Good to hear, and yes I'm not surprised that Dell wants that much. I would have put that 345 towards a new laptop if Dell told me that.

The same thing's just happened to mine. Which part did you replace to fix it? Did you have to get a new lid?
    Cheers
