So a couple of days ago I dropped my bag in which I had my 1520. I threw the bag in the air to catch it with my other hand because for some reason (one of my hands was busy I guess) and it fell. Maybe 2-3 ft.

    I was like.... ****k!

    - the funny thing is I was in a hurry and had to leave, and I just remembered it (it happened 2-3 days ago) now - everything seems to be working fine, although it now seems to take longer to boot (the sidebar especially)

But I think that started happening after I installed some random firewall (comodo) and peerguardian, and some uninstallable windows update... no?

Do you think the hard drive might have been affected?

Well I know that on my desktop sometimes when I install new vista updates it can slow down when I boot up and as you described the sidebar always takes the longest. It was most likely the firewall you installed.

Your HDD might have been affected from the drop but if you haven't noticed any other problems your probobly fine. i would just uninstall the firewall and see if that fixes the problem.

If it wasn't turned on, the hard drive should not be affected. You can check this still though by running a check disk and rebooting your computer to let it do its magic and test the drive.

From my experience, comodo does slow the boot considerably, however.

Now thats sad!!! your other hand was busy?
Like the other member said sidebar take a bit of time to load I disabled mine from starting when Vista starts up and once Vista and desktop has loaded I select it manually. Comodo just last night released a new version of their firewall just to point out. ;)
Still think yourself lucky you did not damage you notebook in a state that would see it used as say a over sized paper weight... :D

Dell Rep - "What appears to be the problem?"

Customer - "I threw my laptop into the air and didn't catch it"

Thanks. You're right, uninstalling Comodo did it.

Thanks, that made me feel much better

What if it was hibernated or on sleep? I'll test the disk

Nah I think I'll stick with Windows' Firewall for now :)

    :D

When you drop an Inspiron, does it bounce? Or does it just lie on the concrete, stunned?

    LOL

It wasn't me this time... I left my bag on a chair and one of my friends needed that chair, picked up my bag in which was the laptop and just dropped it. He didn't even push it off, he lifted it UP High and dropped it and it fell so hard I could hear it (BOOM! ) *ouch*

    and my reaction was... @^&%&^($%&*
