yup, just as the title says. i have the complete care package for 1 year (i bought it in may) so i think i'm covered. the laptop was completely submerged in water and seemed pretty waterlogged when i pulled it out. needless to say, it doesn't work.
would dell just try to repair the computer? is that even possible given what's happened to it? will they send me a new replacement instead? does complete care even cover this type of calamity?!![]()
i know i'm an idiot, but i'd like to hear people's opinions on this forum before i call dell. thanks!

Did you let the laptop dry out for a few days after it was dropped? Assuming it was off when you dropped it in there, it's in the realm of possibility that it could end up working again. But if not, go right ahead and call them. That's exactly the kind of thing you have coverage for. Depending on how many individual components need repair, they may just replace the guts or just replace the entire laptop.
Looks at it this way: At least you'll have gotten your money's worth out of the CompleteCare since you have a good excuse to use it. -
just out of curiosity - how did you manage to drop it? and what was it doing near the bathtub in the first place?
-
^lol, I wanna know too
-
Calgone, take him away!
 -
i was just taking a bath and surfing the net when my gf started pounding on the door to get my attention since someone wanted to talk to me. startled the hell out of me since i was really focused on what i was reading, and i ended up just knocking it into the water!
i'm happy dell should cover this though -
right now you should be happy to be alive...
-
Lemme get this straight. you were surfing the internet while in the "tub" ...
????
Perhaps its best we just don't know. -
Same thing happened to me while I was bungee jumping last month with my laptop...
-
What he is trying to tell us is that he was doing the hanky cranky in his bathtub and his gf startled him...
-
My laptop and Harley got messed up when I had a wreck while surfing the net...

-
and Don't Ever...go on ur laptop...while bathing again lol or use any Electronic Devices for that matter. -
-
lol, guys while this might be an entertaining conversation, we problably should get back on topic.
If the laptop is repairable, dell will try to fix it. If by some chance the laptop isn't repairable, they will configure a new laptop for you with the same/similar specs that you have.
Considering the nature of the accident, Dell will probably have some questions. -

Guys, please stop with the jokes. I know it is a funny situation for some of us, but it is causing the thread to be severally off topic and not contribution to the actual problem/question of the thread.

something about this thread makes me think its more of a hypothetical question than anything, I dont have the accidental damage plan, but I know if I created one, there would be a clause somewhere that would nullify coverage for drowning in the tub, falling off a boat I can sorta see happening, but surfing in the tub, and gettinng startled, thats darwin material
-
Metamorphical Good computer user
That is a very interesting story... I hope Dell replaces it for you, I'm sure they'll ask you plenty of questions about this.

Why Amber, your are SO serious, have a laugh now and then ...
-
Hey , currently I don't have any accidental warranty on my E1505 but IF I accidentally ruined my laptop and bought the warranty after that will Dell still wanna repair it
-
-
Please do let us know how it goes, I know that many people, myself included, have CompleteCare and wonder if it's only a lip service thing or if it actually is worth the money. Thanks.
-
LMAO ... exactly ...
-
but on a serious note, please keep us updated about how Dell would go about this situation. i would also like to know what their complete care is really like. -
Darwin Award Nomination if he had died.
But yeah what kind of questions does Dell ask you if you have an accadent with your notebook. I mean how can they tell if you accadentally, or intentionally dropped your notebook in the tub? I bought it because mine will be in a dorm with me for 3+ years (warranties expire after 3 years) so it was a no brainer to get it. -
Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
if he sends it back and its full of Mr. Bubble, they might raise an eyebrow
-
I jumped into a pool once with my cellphone.... (yes, I had a few drinks ) . The cellphone survived somewhat, but the battery didn't. Just in case Dell does not come through: your batt is probably gone but the laptop might be ok after a week of drying. A hairdrier might help.
-
Any update yet on Dell replacing your Tubtop?
We all want to know. If Dell makes good on this one, I can feel safe about anything I may do to mine. -
Don't use your hair dryer, It will melt it. My girlfriend's dad jumped in the pool with his cell phone and used the hair dryer. If you use it, make sure you use a low low setting.

Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
if its been powerd back up and not completely dry, its a big silver and white brick, if it hasnt been, and dell wont take it back, take it apart ,remove any water you see, clean all contacts to remove soap and what not, let it sit in pieces for at least a day, clean the contacts once again, then put it back together and see if it works, if it hasnt been powered back up, there is a decent chance it'll work

Sorry for being off topic once again, but the conclusion is:
Girlfriends and Dads do cause and make a lot of trouble dont they?
Coming back to the topic, can someone put some light on the scope of CompleteCover? -
wearetheborg Notebook Virtuoso
Yeah, do keep us updated.
I would assume that completecare covers damage under *reasonable* use. If I'm in the habit of tossing my laptop to friends to let them quickly see some document across the room, and if in the process someone drops the laptop, would Dell cover it ?
Looking at it from a business perspective, if dell refuses, and he sues, would he win ?
Is dell's defense of "its not supposed to be used in bathrooms, tubs" a reasonable defense? -
This whole story is funny. No offense but I would never even consider using my notebook while in the tub.
-
Besides, you can't live without us. Well some of you could and would probably prefer to live with out me, but whole other issue.
Anyways, The complete coverage care / accidental coverage is suppose to cover all drops, spills, normal wear n tear, etc. It can be something simple like spilling a few drops of water or something worst like spilling a large class of coke. Even things such as the LCD being stepped on are covered. If dells thinks it sounds to good to be true (such as dropping it in a pool) or determine that there is a possibility of it being intentional, you could be in the middle of a fraud investigation.
If the laptop is repairable, they will try to fix it or replace any parts that have broken. If Dell determines that the laptop is not repairable, then they will replace the laptop with similar specs. For dell to evaluate it, I believe it has to be sent to the repair depot in Tennessee. -

ALL drops SG ?
I wonder if Dell can say "all drops occuring in normal usage patterns"
If someone came to me and wanted accidental protection, and told me that he uses laptops near bathtubs, I would NOT give him the plan (if legally permitted) for obvios reasons.
In the laptop being used as a frisbee example - I didnt drop the laptop on purpose - it just happened - does that mean it should be covered ? -
If this works with cell phones, then maybe laptops too? Be sure to take out battery if you try it

Drops - meaning you dropped it a couple of feet. With things like this and spills, dell will usually replace any broken parts without too many questions/hassle.
Like i said, probably dropping it in a tub/pool is going to cause an investigation to validate the claim that it was accidental. Things like that do happen, but I don't know how dells policy is on events such as this. I know it is covered in your complete care warranty, but only if it is accidental.
Dropped my e1505 in bathtub!!
