I have noticed many buyers opting for 1 stick of 512mb ram and getting the other stick elsewhere. From what I gathered, to run Dual Channel DDR on e.g. the XPS, 9300 and the 6000, you need to identical sticks of ram.
Is that an issue?
Are the above notebooks capable of running on dual channel in the first place?
How will you know if it is actually running on dual channel in the first place?

I just got my i6000 had ran Sandra utility, when I ran it with one pc2-3200 400mhz sodimm it reported Channels: 1. When I put two pc2-4200 533mhz sodimm in it it then reported Channels: 2. I also saw this mentioned in the BIOS setup that it was using dual channel.
Both sodimm must match exactly, I was told from a tech at crucial that you should even order the two sodimm at the same time because any variance could effect the ability to be used in dual channel mode.

Hi Steven I see that u have almost the same configuration as mine (but I put 512MB (two sticks and 400Mhz) of ram (because it was a free upgrade), and I'm thinking about putting 533mhz sticks ... but I'm going to do when the prices fall down ... so tell me have you already done any benchmark? in general? how does the x300 works? ... what kind of programs do you use and how are they working in your i6000? ... have you tried multitasking activities? ... thanks in advance

Lucho007,
Steven already posted his benchmarks in this forum. We need somebody with 2 400Mhz 512 sticks to run benchmarks on. You should chat with him and run the benchmarks.
