Has anyone heard any news (or know of good rumor/update sites) about a Dual-Core XPS Laptop? I have trouble forking over the dough for the M170 when the "lower end" E1705 has a bette processor.

Should I just get the E1705 (even though its got a less than stellar graphics card) or hope and wait for some updates soon?

    -FIRST POST----Thanks for the help.

I have heard May at the earliest, probably June. It will be similar to the m170 but be dual core and may come with the 7900gtx.

I think the March date is for the latitudes only.

I haven't heard anything outside of rumors, but most are projecting May/June premier of XPS core duo

I haven't "heard" anything, but I agree with U...I can't imagine that Dell would wait until May/June with its t.o.t.l. notebook system to reveal a dual core solution and give up that segment...someone posted that they'd wait until the Monroe was released...I say as in Marilyn? ;)

If you could find a e1705 on outlet or so with a 7800 go Id say get it but if not wait it out man. The x1400 is light years behind the 7800. Im really upset they ran out or discontinued the 7800 go in the e1705 line but who knows. They probaly were having a hard time selling the xps when the e1705 had the 7800 option and a Dual core cpu. I have heard that the new games coming out with these dual core patches that it makes a huge difference. Also they might realease a new 7900 go vanilla in the e1705 which would be awesome.

    Viper out

i wouldnt think they would release a 7900go for the machine. They could have put a 7800go in the i9300 and called it ok.

Thanks guys - Guess I'll have to play the good old "wait and see" game!

Problem is I'll loose the student discount in a few months when I graduate. If nothing changes do you think I should sacrifice the Dual-Core and get the XPS M170 with the 2.0M or sacrifice the video card and get the E1705?

I'll be playing games (DDO, WOW, HL2, Civ4) and graphic design mostly.

    Thank you for you help!

With those games, the E1705 should be great for those. Just demanding games like fear and bf2 need a better card for faster frame rates

Why not get the E1705 from dell outlet with the 7800 GO? Have you looked into the dell outlet yet?

If you do find an E1705/9400 in the outlet section with the7800 card and if you want it, you better buy it quick. Their outlet store changes inventory very quickly.

I checked the outlet but can't find one that has enough of the specs I want to make it worth while.

I have no inside information and my Rep Power is 0; that said, over the next two months, Centrino Duo Core as a brand will be as ubiquitous as the blue men were and there will be a flood of sales exhausting the PM channel with a simultaneous promo of the Centrino-D-c.

The World Baseball feed has featured Intel's "Centrino Core Duo" as a major sponsor. From what I've seen, there are two or three distinct commercials that will probably have a broader air in the next period. No, there are no blue men.

Find some comparisons: the PM CPU was fast...the Core Duo is faster. The chipset supports DDR2 667 in it's fsb and it will also plug 'n play w/ Merom...EM64T, INTC's emulation of 64.

Dell hasn't announced this yet, but it's probably fair to assume Core Duo will be in all of their machines at some point and of course it's easier to put it in larger machines.
