Dude....I got a dell! inspiron 13 5000

I just ordered a new Dell inspiron 5000 13 2 in 1. Its just the base model but I will upgrade ram and SSD as soon as it gets here. I am going to install 16gb ram and a 1TB SSD. Should be an ok machine for workin on some photos, basic usage etc.

This is replacing a surface 3, that I should not have sold...but got pissed off at MS for trashing windows 10 on my nokia...ha ha! Oh well. Back again. I used a mac for awhile but just don't like it as much!

 

How are you finding the 13/5000? I've just got one for my partner and was wondering your thoughts? is the battery enough? is the screen satisfactory?

I am just getting it up and running today. Just received it. It is awesome. I bought the least expensive one with the normal Pentium dual core processor and 4gb ram. It has a 500gb HD. I am using it right now on battery and with the screen at 40% its viewable with no issue. I think the screen issues are WAY overblown. Its plastic, but looks and really feels like aluminum without being cold. I am impressed with this machine more than I thought I would be. After Christmas, and when my wife gets her inspiron 11 3000, I am adding a 1tb SSD and 16gb ram for this one and a 1TB SSD and 8gb ram for hers. It will increase battery life, speed etc on both...Overall, this is an awesome computer for the price.

 

Just a follow up, I have been using the inspiron 13 for a day now.....I think the only negative I can find is the "texture" on the touchpad. That's it. Coming from a 2007 MacBook 13, this thing is fast, sleek, screen is awesome, touchscreen is back where it belongs. And with the anniversary update, windows 10 is no longer sluggish. I would have loved to have the hello camera and back lit keyboard but really, those are not needed. Just nice things to have. overall, this notebook is right up there with how I loved my acer timeline 4810.

 

Placed an order last night for a 16gb ballistix ram kit and 2 TB firecuda. The drive space won over all out speed for my drive choice. Even with the firecuda running, it should be a fair bit quicker than the 500gb drive in there now. I will report back after I get it installed next week.

 

Well, My stuff arrived. They/I ordered the wrong drive and I received a 2 tb barracuda. So I packed it up and returned it right away. The fireCuda should be here shortly. Since installing the 16gb ram in my notebook, it's much speedier doing most things. I noticed a big increase in how fast things run. I think 4 gb is not enough for the new machines and windows 10. I have to order a firecuda and 8gb ram for my wifes Inspiron 11 3000 now. Will make her little machine run faster too!

 

Well, Amazon received my return just waiting for the refund now, and have a firecuda waiting in the cart! can't wait to get that.

 

Firecuda 2tb drive installed. It's fast. almost as fast as my SSD. A worthy upgrade for notebooks you will be doing and storing a lot of content on but still want extra speed.
