Is it worth it? I've heard reports that people have gotten it to work, but some people also have gotten things like broken fans? Should i use it? Was the broken fan only a rare exception?
-
well i cant even find the stupid program to try. I love my laptop, but it does get very very hot.
-
It IS worth it. Also, the dude that had a broken fan had a broken fan, not a i9kfangui issue.

I wished I had this little software 2yrs ago when my Inspiron 4150 original mobo fried, yes there was smoke and burnt smell coming out of the poor thing. There are 2 fans in my notebook - the intake at the bottom and the exhaust at the back. The back fan died - it died because it got too hot and melted a circuit which over time led to more heat and more circuit death until the mobo fried.
D/Hell wanted to charged me $750 to replace the mobo and 75 for labor. I told them mofos to take their mobos and stick it you know where because they knew full well it's their $hitty design that caused this. I got a replacement mobo in Hong Kong for all in $150 and has lasted me for 1.5yrs
If I had this program earlier I would have been able to monitor the notebooks various temps and control both fans at will. Now it does not get as hot and it's wonderful little program. -
Assuming your fans aren't defective, you should enjoy the cooling full-time fans long enough for the Core Duo-compatible i9k to be released. It's your choice. -
awesome! thanks for telling me! So if i keep the fans on constantly, maybe slow speed, they shouldnt break right? The miniscule risk of them breaking is worth taking for the drop of temp from about 80ish to 70ish? am i right?
-
Should they break at all? Im confused here.. cause just wondering now makes it sound like if you use this app to turn your fans on, it will mess something up?
-
Where can you download this program? Thanks in advance.
-
yes same question here, where do you download the fanio and i9kfangui
-
just google it and you can find it
-
Using i9kfangui, with fans on constant slow, I keep 63C idle....
Without using it, GPU heat rises to 82C before bios turns fan on slow, cooling it to 70C before turning fan off, then rises back to 82C. Unacceptable.
I suggest running slow/slow for normal use and slow(CPU)/high(GPU) for gaming....
Use i9kfangui for fan control, and Everest to monitor GPU and CPU temps.... -
acolyte may I ask which version of 19kfangui your using? Is it the 2.3 beta version or 2.2? Thanks!
-
I am using 2.2
-
Thanks. Another question acolyte, did you ever buy a laptop cooler? Was it helpful?
-
I did (bytecc) and as of yet I haven't done enough testing to comment fairly....
-
Follow this link to my thread about i9k for where to get the program. The link is to the 2.2 version I believe.
In all honesty, you do not need a notebook cooler if you use i9k, the stock fans are more than adequate to chill your e1705. I used the fans at full blast and my temps stayed ultra low. i9k actually runs them about 1000 RPM lower than their maximum speed, so they should definitely NOT break by using the program. The key is just ensuring that your vents are not covered. The soda bottle-cap trick is the easiest method...
I bought the Bytecc cooler and there was no noticeable decrease in temps. I was able to drop more degrees simply by switching the fans on to fulltime high speed. The Bytecc fans draw more juice and are just as loud as the stock fans on high. There may be better coolers, but having manual control of the stock fans is where it's at! -
How does this perform on a E1505? I could use it since I play on beds, floors etc.. That or a shelf lol.
Also I could still buy a nice laptop cooler for one reason, the fans may cool the PC yes, However the case on the bottom can get hott too you know, Least the fans would keep the external case cooler. =) Plus.. I need something to sit my laptop on when I am on the bed etc.. lol.
Also I learned the E1505 seems to have a air intake on the bottom then blows it out the rear. So least I know that it doesnt blow the air OUT of the bottom. -
i wanted to try this temp/fan program it seems some are using but its says this...
i9kfangui and the new Dell Duo Core Laptops
Friday, 10 February 2006
i9kfangui is not compatable with the new Dell Duo Core laptops at this time.
Please do not install or use i9kfangui with these laptops, there are some issues with the fan controls. I will try to get these sorted out in version 2.4, due out after the release of version 2.3
Thanks!
Spuds
is there a newer version out that i cant find or is this version working even though it says it doesnt? -
No new version yet, its claimed it will still work tho.. But I want to hear more about this too.=/
-
Despite the warning, it still works - it just doesn't work flawlessly. Temp readings are somewhat off and many of the automatic fan profiles you create within the program don't work properly. At this point, only DL the program if you want to manually control the speeds of your fans. For me, personally, this means leaving them on high all the time... Assuming your fan is not defective from the start, this will NOT break your fans. If you are not having an issue with cooling or you aren't even sure how to measure such a thing, you probably shouldn't be downloading the program - at least not until it is to version 2.4.

Wonder how long till it comes out, seems like a nice tool. =)
