Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7600 2.33GHz (the best of the xps 1210 vs Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T7500 2.2GHz Santa Rosa chip set from the best of the xps 1330)

    How big is the difference?

    Also,

I have been wanted to get the xps 1220, as a way of having a semi light/ultra portable who's built in cam would record lectures, yet run a few games here and there.

Now I have been hearing that some professors can ban students from recording lectures.

Would I be better off with a xps 1220, where they cant force me to turn off the cam/less conspicuous, or get the 1330 with the new creative optia 2 Megapixel attachment cam and hope that the prof. let me get by without problems.

I mean the 1330 is lighter, better frame, looks better, fingerprint reader, possibly faster, and led backlight, with a built in remote, and a bigger screen.

This webcam thing and the processor speeds are killing me, I'm not sure which to get. What do you guys think?

I wouldn't record lectures unless you have permission. I've seen students get in majorly big trouble (discipline committee hearings etc.) just for recording audio.

Just watch the guy behind you who sees you recording and casually mentions it to the prof. Professors tend to be very careful about their intellectual work product and who has control over it...

Even if your school doesn't have an explicit policy, having the prof get really pissed at you is generally a bad idea.

I think it's better if you just take the notes. Besides, how often will you go back through a video of lecture anyway?

    Edit:
Also the m1330 can be configured with a T7700 2.4 ghz santa rosa processor.

Why go around the issue? Why not just go up to the professor and ask directly? If you get a no, then go ask your school dean if you have the right to record or not.

Man I keep reading everywhere, that I can go up to 2.4 but everytime a log into dell, it maxes out a t 2.2

    example:

Aside from that, I understand what you guys are saying. Ask the teacher flat out and skip the bs. The problem is, I was never a great note taker, more of a listener, meaning that if I could actually record the lectures, then I could focus on listening in class, while making small notes here and there, so I know where to go back, when reviewing for finals. Yea, I could tell the school that I have a learning disability or some bs like that and probably be ok'ed for recording all of my classes, but that is a hassle.

Which is why im hoping someone will address the issue that, with the xps 1210, i lose a ton of perks, but i could record with subtly. I just flip the cam the other way, and I would doubt they would know what I am doing...

    just some thoughts...

i am goign to venture a guess and say the higher ghz is faster. i know that santa rosa has a faster front side bus, but how much faster is up for question. i mean is it .13ghz faster?

The T7300 is THE best processor out for that lappy right now. 2.0 vs 2.2Ghz...almost no appreciable difference. 2.0 vs 2.4 will give you, maybe a one-minute encoding edge when doing a 20-minute video encoding session?

If you're that worried about it, save the extra $100+ and do a slight overclock when you get the PC. The T7300 will overclock to 2.2Ghz with very little added heat.

The Small Business site offers the 2.4GHz. However, it's $400 more than the 2.2GHz. So while the 2.2GHz is a $275 upgrade, the 2.4GHz is a $675 upgrade.

The 2.3 ghz is non-santa rosa (an older design). Santa Rosa is more power efficient and contains a faster Front Side bus (Faster speed). A 2.3 might be faster that a 2.2 Santa Rosa or about the same. The difference is the 2.2 gets better battery life.
