Has anyone else had duplicate laptops for one order sent?

Now, this is the story. My old Inspirion died so I decided to buy a new one, 1525. I ordered it on the 12 February and was told it would be delivered by the 28 February.

On the 17th I am sent an email saying parts to my laptop aren't available - minor parts, the colour I wanted and the free bag colour. I check the online status and it has gone from Shipped from Factory to cancelled on the 19th.

I call Dell to ask why they cancelled my order without telling me, they tell me someone will call me back. No one does.

I get an email on 23rd February saying that my laptop has been upgraded due to parts not being available, 250GB hard drive from 160, Windows Office (never ordered it!), red instead of brown and it will be manufactored asap. A new order number is generated and everything.

On the 24th, my original laptop order is delivered to my work. With both the laptop colour and bag I ordered that apparenetly wasn't available.

On the 28th, I get an email saying the 2nd laptop is shipped. I am away so can't call them so I email them requesting they do not send it. However this second laptop was delivered on 2 March. I call Dell, they don't believe me and according to them the 1st laptop does not exist. They say they will call me back. They don't. However on 4 March, courier calls me to organise a date for the pickup.

I receive an email that day when I get home with a third order, I look at the order status, its the same as the second laptop. I get an email today, the 6th, saying its shipped from the factory.

Everyone I've talked to at Dell do not think my first laptop exists and I can't understand why they are sending me this third one. I don't know what to do, no one at customer service listens to me. There has been only one charge on my credit card.

I fear its like an infinite laptop, no matter how many times I return it, Dell will just make it again and send it to me!

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm getting so frustrated with Dell I'm at the point where I'm sick of being honest and will just keep this third one. I'm worried they'll refund my payment next too.

Well if you keep the laptops its not like you are being dishonest. You have even made effort at contacting them..enjoy the extra laptops :D

Thats a bad idea because eventually dell's paperwork will catchup with the system and they will charge you for it. Check your packing slips to make sure one does not have a return shipment label in it, and call dell again and make sure you are being clear on what is happening in this situation.

Trust me, I have been very clear to Dell. Each laptop has its own order numbers and I've quoted service tags to them. According to what their call centre can see, this first laptop shouldn't exist.

And the problem with Dell Customer Service is they say they'll do something and then don't which creates more problems ie. the third laptop.

The first time I called them they told me I didn't speak English and that they didn't speak English, despite both of us speaking English and hung up on me.

I'm considering cancelling my credit card because I'm really concerned that Dell are going to me over for their constant mistakes and eventually charge me for them all.

Also, I plan to refuse delivery of the third laptop - anyone had experience with this? I plan to just refuse to sign for it and they can take it back to their depot. I'm sick of having to call Dell, get transfered 4 times without being told, and then being told I'll be called back or it will be sorted and it isn't.

You might be slapped with a restocking fee if you refuse it...

I'm going to be really annoyed if I get any restocking fees. It is Dell who cancelled my order saying there wasn't parts and sent it anyway, then upgraded my system and sent me a second one, and because they don't believe the first one exists, are sending me a third.

I'm really starting to think my best bet is to cancel my credit card because all I've been charged for is the original order (which I'm on now). They were supposed to cancel this third order, I don't even get why there is a third one. It's doing my head in. No one at customer service helps me.

Well personally I'd record a conversation with them on the first laptop that does not exist. Cancel your credit card so no further charges can be added to and return the 3rd machine while keeping the first two.

In the event the "paper work" catches up you have a valid claim that you attempted to return it and were unable to and had no other means to do with the machine. So essentially keep the first two.

huh... well my order has also been duplicated. i've received my laptop in the end of october... and few days after, another arrived! i was confused, immediately called to Dell CS... they told they would send a courier to pick it up. as the laptop was delivered to my work and my colleague was arranging that actually, it was in his department (backoffice). so i thought that case was solved.

...but, not really. two days ago, someone from Dell called me, that there is an unpaid laptop, so what shall we do with that? the duplicate e5500 was waiting for being picked up since the beginning of November! ugh... few more calls solved the situation quite quickly, and the laptop is on its way back to Dell now.

i believe that if you refuse the parcel when they attempt to deliver it, you're okay.

Good to know it has happened to someone else then. I will refuse delivery. I've got proof that I've only ordered one laptop, yet there's 3 orders so its all wrong on Dell's side. They've got a problem if they keep sending out duplicate laptops though!

Well it seems sorted...I think. They managed to stop the 3rd laptop being shipped and picked up the 2nd one. And my service tag on the one I did receive works on the website. I just keep checking my credit card to make sure they don't charge any wrong restock fees or try refund the whole thing.

you actually could not legally have been charged for the wrong laptops. The federal mail order law prevents companies from billing you for unsolicited products recieved by you
