I have officially received the XPS M1710 today, and right away I'm noticing the secondary Duracell multi-airplane/car/house power adapter DELL shipped with it is uncomfortably HOT. In addition I keep getting a message that the system has detected a 90W power adapter and cannot boot without a 130W power adapter. It asks me to hit F1 to shut down, then when I boot back up again I tend to get lucky the second or third time.

    Anybody having issues with these?

Yes, there is something rong with the Dell batteries. One of the Dells juz blew up in Japan in a meeting. Go ask Dell service for a 120W adapter.

Talk about completely useless response, your 'information' has nothing to do with the guys issue.

Uhmm.. stop using that brick! It is clear they sent you the wrong power brick and your laptop is overloading it trying to draw more power then it can handel.

I agree, I get that feeling.. I did verify it's the correct model, also available to order with Precisions, and it says 130Watt on the brick. I'm feeling either this is poor design, or a bad unit. Just looking to see if it's common--to help decide whether to exchange or just say forget it.

large power bricks in general get very warm when in use, I got a similar error on me e5105 once, but I found that was due to the adapter being ever so slightly pulled out of the notebook, do you get the error everytime your plugged in?

It's specific to the Duracell adapter, and it's consistent. Soft booting with the Duracell fails 100% of the time and gives the 90W F1 shutdown message. The larger DELL 130W brick is barely even warm under a full load. DELL said there are no reports of the Duracell units overheating so they're shipping me a trade. We shall see..

The 90 watts do get very hot. That's what the 9300 systems got, and most of the time it isn't that bad, but there are time where it feels like it is burning.

Let's us know how the new powerbrick goes.

The reason the Dell XPS M1710 needs a 130W AC Adapter is becaues of the Nvidia GeForce Go7900GTX video card. It cannot operate on a 90W adapter. The 90W adapter you have now is incorrect, have Dell replace it immediately. It is extremely hot because it is operating at 100% power draw.

I highly advise against any sort of strenous activity while using that adapter.
