How well on a scale from one to ten would this be for gaming purposes

    Core Duo 2.00 GHz
    *1GB RAM
    *100GB 5400 or maybe should i get the 60 gb 7200?
    *DVD Burner
    *6 Cell Batt.
    *Nvidia 7800 Go

    at the price of $1,408.00

and if you would could you could please let me know how good the graphic card is maybe a little info or a scale from one to 10

and what would the 2.0 Duo be if it was a pentium M... The Same?
EDIT Oh i will be buying another Gb of Ram

I would say 8-9 on both scales. That is because the 7800gtx go is the best on the market.

Not sure if I misunderstood your question; but a duo is basically two pentium M cores on one die, so depending on your requirement you'll either see the same performance or an increase. ie; applications/games taking advantage of two processors and multi tasking will see greatest improvements.

Also you mentioned you were getting another gig of RAM, not sure how exactly your specification is, but Dell usually gives you 512X2 = 1GB of dual channel mem. Just something to watch out for before you order :)

Edit: I would rate the same as ccbr01, 8 to 9. If you wanted to go all out, the Dell XPS M170 is a prime candidate. But I don't think the almost 1k price hike is justified unless you wanted the best of the best.

Also here's a review with some gaming benchmarks for the duo line from anandtech.

    I agree...you are looking at 8-9...probably more around a 9.

The processor is great and the Video card rocks! :p

The 7800 GO that Dell offers for the E1705 is not a GTX.
It's a striped down version of the 7800 GO GTX they offer in the XPS M170.

this is true. the 7800 in the dell is severely downclocked so that it doesnt outperform the xps.
Its still returns a very respectable 3800 ish pcmark05, but its not the bleeding edge performer that it should be

Yes it is pretty underclocked. You 'can' change the clock speeds to a higher setting. But obviously you'd be getting into battery, heat, stability and warranty issues.

Another poster on these forums from Sweden, got about 5630 in 3DMark05 using forceware drivers.

Not bad considering the stock 7800GTX go gets about 6300 or so.

I would give it a 9 Really the only reason I can even think of for having the E1075 would be as a gaming alternative to the M170.

I would stick with the 100GB. it has a 8MB buffer so it should have pretty good performance.

Obviously the 60GB will perform a bit better, but you have to ask yourself if the higher price and lower capacity is worth it.

(Also I would imagine is uses less power)

Agreed. For what you're getting, you'll easily be spending 2k+ on a comparable system from Alienware. Sager etc.

As far as the hard drive, I remember reading a user swapped out his hard drive with a 7200rpm drive later, and he said the performance increase was very minute. The 7200rpm would theoretically drain more of the battery and you'd get more heat. He said the trade off wasn't worth it.

You can always upgrade the RAM at a later time. Which is what most people recommend since you can buy the RAM for much cheaper from other sources, especially an online retailer.

I'm doing the same thing, upgrading to 2 gigs after I get my system. I buy from newegg.com. The prices and shipping speed can't be beat.

2GB; 2X1GB sticks of dual channel DDR2 533Mhz RAM for $168 and that includes shipping.

The 667Mhz RAM is a bit more pricier, and the price difference vs. performance gain isn't worth it, imo. But if you want the best of the best you can get two of these for a total of about $270 shipped.

Either case is way cheaper than what Dell asks for.

Edit: Just noticed the mushkin one is out of stock. They usually replenish quick, but they have other choices anyways, start your search here. http://www.newegg.com/ProductSort/Subcategory.asp?Subcategory=381

Definitely want the 9 cell if you plan on being away from the mains for awhile. For me, I chose the regular 6 cell, since for now I'm going to be primarily using the laptop as a desktop replacement, not going to be away from it for long. I'll probably pick up the 9 cell later when I head to grad school. I think SG mentioned you can get about another 1 to 1 1/2 hours out of the 9 cell.

The screen issue is a toss up, do you primarily game/watch movies or do desktop work, spreadsheets etc. If you tend to spend most of your time reading, the ultrasharp has a higher native resolution making all your text appear small.

The RAM, my philosophy is capacity>speed if the price difference is almost half. Once the margin starts getting smaller it boils down to if you're willing to wait or if you want to be ready, may as well get the 667Mhz. Right now I think Dell is offering the 1 GB free upgrade, I'd stick with that and later on pick up a 2G of 667.
