I have always regretted getting TrueLife on my XPS M140...I'm hoping the M1210 will be better!

The very small fonts in combination with the reflections hinder any possible eye candy advantage the higher resolution gloss screens provide.

WXGA+ is excellent for a 17" screen. YOu really have to see them to make a choice though. Function over form wins in my world everytime.

Neither are bad for your eyes at all, so many people make these mistakes. It's just when you focus for a long time, of course your eyes will be tired and irritated, but when you go to sleep they'll be good as new in the morning. It won't damage your eye in any way.

The matte is terrible... don't even think about it. Poor viewing angle, poor contrast, poor brightness. It's pathetic. I have one in a Dell 620 from work and I hate it.

This is a seriously old thread!!! That being said... I have an e1405 with truelife wxga+ and I love it... Everything is perfectly readable and reflection has only been a problem a couple times and even then only for a couple seconds until I adjusted the screen angle.

    GLOSSY FTW!

I will pick True Bright when i finally order.
You would think with the slight Light leakage Dell would fix it by now.

There are certainly ups and downs with each type. My old presario had a matte screen with SXGA resolution and I found it great for watching movies and surfing the internet, no problems with sunlight watsoever, except for the fact that like someone else mentioned, the fonts may look a little blurry or washed out under the sun.

My new Inspiron has truelife screen with XGA resolution. I have to admit that truelife is great for watching movies and what not. But for general day to day use, I find it abit annoying especially if you have a strong light source in the background. though it may give a much cooler look to your laptop, I find it rather impractical to use this kind of screen on a day to day basis especially under the sunlight....

I would personally go for the higher resolution screen. Glossy screens aren't that bad, and the higher resolution of the true-life screen is a definite plus.

Truelife + higher res is much better than Matte screens for indoor (low glare) activities. If going outdoors or experiencing alot of direct light against the screen, then Matte screens are much better for dealing with that situation.

I know this is an old thread but its a good one.

I recently got my first laptop (25 year pc user).

I ordered the 6400 with the matte wxga screen.

First problem , is the pitiful low vertical viewing angle. The slightest movement causes sharp contrast changes.

The wxga+ is speced much better, something like 5o degrees vs 15 deg. Can anyone confirm?

Now I take the laptop outdoors and find , like many posters here , that its almost unusable in daylight, even at high brightness and contrast. I thought these things were made to be used on the go, guess not in the street though.

So, I'm thinking I might as well send it back and get the higher rez screen, in Glossy, since it doesnt look like I'll be using it in the daylight much anyhow.

How bad is the light leakage, especially when watching a widescreen movie?
