I'm strongly considering purchasing the E1405.

I am thinking about buying it with the 6-cell battery in it, and then buying a 9-cell off eBay (cheaper than Dell). That way, I can use the 9-cell whenever I'm not traveling and need the extra power and use the 6-cell when I'm on the road so it's lighter.

My question is...is there much of a difference portability-wise with the 6 and 9-cell? Is the 9-cell that much heavier when carrying compared to the 6? Wondering if I should just get it with the 9.

Your advice would be beneficial...thanks in advance!

Anyone...? Don't mean to be rude by "bumping" this...I just need to make a decision by today. I know I'm going to buy this laptop, just not sure if I should get it with the 6 and purchase the 9 off eBay, or just go straight with the 9.

for what its worth i just have the 6 cell in my 1405. Its very light to me. However, weight doesn't bother me. I get about 3.5 hours of good browsing and etc with the brightness at 1/2 on battery life.

I say just get the 6cell at first and see how you like it. Obviously the 9cell sticks out and is larger and ugly to me.

    *2cents*

I just got my 1405 with only the 9 cell and I love it. Right now at "two notches" from max brightness the battery indicator says %94 and 7:09 hours remaining. I can use it all day around my house without having to recharge (note I don't have wifi enabled because my house isn't wireless, I am using a cat 5 connection). I have read a few places that the 1405 will get up to 8 hours (there are several battery settings: home/office desk, portable/laptop, presentation, always on, minimal power management, and max battery.

It sticks out a little, there are photos here comparing a 640m (which is just the business model of the e1405) with a 6 cell and a 9 cell here: http://www.notebookforums.com/post2104198.html

If I'm walking around and typing with one hand the battery is a nice place to hold onto the laptop. I don't think it looks that bad, when it is sitting on my lap I can never see it but I guess if aesthetics is really what you are going for then you should get the 6 cell (or get a macbook --- and pay $600 more haha)

I also went with the 9 cell because when I got out and use my laptop (like at a coffee shop or something) I won't have to plug in, 3 hours vs. at the minimum 5 hours is a big difference when you are out.

I'd also like to note that the 9 cell is probably a bit heavier than the 6 cell but by how much I don't know.
