Sorry if this is common knowledge, but what is a utility to control the fan in the Inspiron E1405 (that actually works)?

Question, what is the correct fan speed divider that I should use. The default is 30.

Also, only off/slow/fast is available, but I swear that sometimes the fan is more variable in speed than that. Hardware Fan Control can be selected, but does nothing when choosing one of the 64 fan speed steps.
