Hey, i got the E1405 last week. This was my first laptop, so i wasn't sure what to expect. It ran fine for about a week, but a new issue has arisen (and i want to know if this is common with ALL notebooks, or this brand, or just my specific one).

When i spend more than an hour or two with it, it gets so hot, that i begin to feel sweaty and uncomfortable using it. Even as i type this now my palms are sweaty? Thoughts,opinions.. Shoot..
(when i mean hot, the area around the laptop, not the keys or anything).

I noticed something similar with my e1505, it was my first laptop as well, i guess its just after a lot of use the laptop gets hot from teh components running for a while. Ive heard people suggest using cooling pads underneath their laptops to cool them down. I usually take a break when it gets too hot, well its good ergonomically to take breaks from teh PC for a bit after a lot of use, so you dont get carpral tunnel syndrome

If it's the same design as E1505 all you have to do is lift the back.
I use a laptop cooler to do this but anything that will lift the back should work.
Also don't forget to enable speedstep if you want the laptop to stay cool.

well, if you have a 7200 hd, it will be warmer..

if you have a good gpu, it will be even warmer..

so, if you go back to like a intel integrated 950, and a 4200 hd,

id say ur lappy will get cooler..

and UNDErVOLT-ing is simple (for any non-dual core) and it will lower temperatures by id say about 5 degrees.

You already made the important distinction. If the laptop is very hot to the touch then there might be something to worry about. However, I have used about 7 different laptops from various manufacturers and they all will increase the temperature in the general area ... and you will really feel it if you are using it directly on your lap. It isn't anything to worry about and it definitely is not limited to certain manufacturers. As suggested, a lap pad can help a lot.

I've been using my E1405 for about 4 hours straight now doing fairly intensive tasks and the only warm area on the top is near the exhaust fan. The bottom is warm but not hot at all.

Im not really concerned with the temperature of the unit, as how it makes me feel sweaty.

    UNvolt?

are you using the computer on your lap? on the bed?

make sure you're using it on a flat surface that doesn't retain heat.

I've got the 1.83ghz and the slower hdd in my 640M and it only gets warm underneath. The side fan vent can get fairly warm sometimes.
