Im going to buy e1405. but i have some troubles in looking in high resolution , getting tired and strain my eyes all the time. Can any owner of e1405 tell me if the TrueLife screen with 1440 x 900 pixels has too little icons and is it hard to read a document compared to 1280 x 800 pixels matte screen.
It will be more obvious if you post the screen resolutions by hitting the Print Screen Button and attach the images.
    Please dont involve any leackages.

I find the resolution of the WXGA+ TrueLife is perfect for the 14.1" screen. With that being said, things are small, but not as small as I would have thought. I don't have my E1405 with me at the moment, but I will post a screenshot later today for you. If you're at all worried about eye strain with a higher resolution screen I probably wouldn't consider it.

Speedking, if you have problems with your eyes you should also consider the reflections you will get with a glossy screen. Look through this forum and you will find numerous posts from people who are bothered by the reflections. A matte screen is much better in that respect. Of course there are others who don't mind at all, but it's all a matter of personal preference. I was at a Dell Direct store just yesterday and I can tell you that I personally would never get a computer with a glossy screen. As for the resolution, I think you will be fine with 1280 x 800. Consider that a 14.1" widescreen display has a smaller width than a 14.1" screen with 1024 x 768 resolution. This means that you get more pixels per inch than on a 14.1" 1024 x 768 screen and that everything is therefore smaller. Again, it would be best if you could go to a computer store and compare screens with different resolutions yourself. If you asked me, I would suggest that you select a 1280 x 800 matte display.

l have the WXGA+ Trulife on my E1405 and its perfect. l was expecting everything to be extremely small but its not. At first everything seemed small but after an hour or so it felt perfect.

Everything is very sharp as well.

I watch the forum all the time and i know many people complain about it. But i think they are not used to use it and of course at first time it will be scary to see your refflection.
My point is that i used to have Sony Vaio which was glossy screen and now i have a desktop machine with Sony screen wich is matte.
I dont like the matte screen really.
DELL doesnt have showroom where i live in europe.

So the best way to say which resolution is better is to post some screen shots.
Im going to use the notebook mostly for AutoCAD and I nternet. I need to make a balance.

    Thanks

I personally don't think looking at a screenshot will help much, but if you think it will...

Not that it should matter, but no, it's a Truelife screen. The only thing that matters is the resolution, 1440x900. Like I said, I don't think it'll help much ;)

Someone could take the same screenshot, at the same resolution on a 24" screen and it would look the same.

you can't tell the difference between matte and glossy from a screenshot because it's on the outside of the LCD

screenshots only work for resolution comparison

When I got my 1440x900 640m, I actually went to the system properties - I thought "Is this really WXGA+? It looks more like WXGA!"

WXGA+ is the perfect resolution for a 14" screen and you'll love it. :)

I was worried about the same thing with the 1705 so I went to the Dell Direct store and checked it out for myself. What I found was that on the 1705 things were really small in the native resolution with docs at 100% (though I was able to fit two spreadsheet side by side at 100%). Though it did seem too small for my eyes (and I figured my wife would complain too). However, by changing the size within the Office app from 100% to 200% it was perfect, very sharp and very clear. So you can have the best of both worlds depending on the app you are using.
