The screen on my E1405 is an AUO1247.

If you have an E1405, what does powerstrip say your screen is?

Who makes this screen? Samsung, Quanta or other?

It is glossy WXGA+ 1440x900 with some sparkle and not so great colors & contrast. No dead pixels, but two small bright spots that are not noticeable when viewing dead on. The backlight looks even, and I do not notice much leakage, but this is probably because the viewing angles are not very good.

Compared to the M140 WXGA 1280x800 samsung screen, the samsung is brighter, more yellowish, and has more sparkle.

You also can notice this diagonal pattern on both screens. This is more noticeable on the WXGA Samsung. This has to do with the gloss which is slightly uneven (raised) in a diagonal pattern.

Fiddling around with powerstrip, I can not get the E1405 screen to look that great.

I must not be that picky, but my wife's e1405's screen isn't that bad. Bit of leakage at the bottom, colors and contrast is very nice, and a pretty wide viewing angle. In fact, I was sitting next to her on the couch the other day, and I could make out everything she was doing. Color was fine, and only a bit of darkening on side farthest from me.
