I just installed the RC2 of Vista on my Dell to try out what Windows Vista is going to be like once I get my Express Upgrade and I noticed that while all the drivers were there for all the hardware (I'm glad for that!), my touchpad's scroll function is not working.

This is the function where you slide your finger in order to scroll horizontally or vertically. I am very used to this function and its really annoying me.

Is there any way to install the driver for the touchpad or get this feature enabled?

I remember when I had my Inspiron 6000d the XP driver did not work properly under Vista and so installing it was fruitless in re-enabling the function.

If anyone who has Vista could tell me how they got theirs to work I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!

I to had the same problem when I installed Vista Ultimate 64bit Edition. I got the scroll function to work by going to Synaptics Website to pull down the Vista drivers. http://www.synaptics.com/support/drive.cfm. If you don't have a synaptics touch pad I would have you go directly to the manufacturers website. Because Dell does not have many updated drivers for Vista.

That works, thanks! (Installing the offical drivers from Synaptics). I am glad that I won't be stuck with a half functioning touchpad.

So far I must say I am very impressed with the way Vista looks on the TrueLife screens, the glossyness really adds to it. Vista appears a little too gloomy and depressing on my matte monitor that I use on my desktop but on the E1405 its a totally different story.

I also like how I don't have to install any drivers other than the touchpad and the Dell QuickSet for Vista in order to get all the functionality of my laptop. That is going to make reformatting much less of a pain.

Leeeee when you install the drivers from the Synaptics website it should give you a little icon of a touchpad in your taskbar. And when you mouse over it it will say Synaptics Pointing device. I would like your either not installing the drivers from the synaptics website or the install went awry.

Don't mean to bring back an old thread, but after installing the drivers it prompts me everytime I start windows if I am sure I want to run the program, and even if I click RUN it still blocks it and a "blocked programs" icon appears in the system tray. At that point I can click on that and approve it to run, and have to go through UAC to let it run.

VERY ANNOYING to have to do this everytime I start Windows.

Any way to allow the touchpad software to run everytime without any prompts?!

(I downloaded the official Vista driver from Synaptic)
