For the E1405, how much warrenty do you think I will need. I am a Junior in high school, and will be bringing it to school and on car trips. The warranty is so expensive considering how long it has taken me to get this amount of money, it will make me wait much longer depending on the warrenty. What do you recommend?
-
Don't go with extended warranty. Keep to the standard 1-year one.
-
Buying an extended warrenty is like gambling. "How much are you willing to lose." The money may sound expensive, but what happens if the motherboard ever needs replaced. I personally extend my warrenty for however long I plan on owning my laptop.

i only got the one year warranty on mine...i also spent $70 on a REALLY nice padded almost armored backpack laptop case from Targus....

I ordered one at work and saved myself about $10, but the best buy in my city had 2 of them in stock as well... -
If you are a junior in high school and will be traveling with it a lot, especially around other schoolmates, I would HIGHLY recommend the accidental protection regardless of which warranty you go for.
Imagine this scenario... you are in class, you drop your pen, and your laptop is on your desk, when you get back up and bump the laptop off your desk, the LCD cracks, no accidental damage protection, no new LCD, with, brand new LCD.
Or, if you have it out at lunch, and some of the more "intelligent" students get into a fight, and begin to tussle around, and throw items. Before you can close the lid, liquid is oozing into your keyboard. Voila, bye bye laptop.
I would at least consider getting enough warranty to last through high school when the laptop is in less of a danger zone. -
but i don't think the lunchroom would be a place i would have my laptop out at... -
Well, I am a part time student only, the rest of the time I'm homeschooled. The car trips are only with my family, and I would never have my laptop out a lunch. My friends at school are all girls, though I am a guy, and are smart enough to avoid such things dangerous things as food fights and physical pushes. The desks that I have also have plenty of space on them, not those little tiny things some people have that barely have room for a binder. I think I will just get a nice armored carrying case or something to protect it in travel and stick with the one year warrenty.

I always buy an extended warranty on a laptop. I can easily fix a PC myself no matter what the issue is even if its buying a new part. But doing that with a laptop is near impossible. I say out of anything you can buy these days laptops probably are the best for extended warranties. If you have it fixed twice, (sometimes even once) you already paid for the warranty.

Say you are using it in the car, and your parent has an accident, with the accident protection, it's covered.
If you have younger siblings, what if they decide that while you are away they will mess with your stuff, if it breaks it's covered.
To me, there's a million things that could happen to a portable computer that could easily potentially make the 119 dollar investment over the warranty cost justifiable. Even if you just buy it for the 1 year standard warranty, but of course, the 119 is the same no matter how many years you buy it for, so if you spring for a 2 year warranty, then you've effectively halved the cost of the accident protection for the same value. I see people on here being thankful for having it, and getting the upgraded edition of their last laptop as a replacement thanks to the warranty. It pays for itself in 1 use. -
I've been looking at the warranty options and the 3yr Plus looks interesting, but does it include the accidental care package? The 4yr premium does, but I can't find what is different about the 3yr Plus solution

you'll have a new laptop in 4 years...
On both sides, good points indeed.
I'm just sticking w/ my one year warranty...i have the above backpack like i linked, and i'm not a clutz...
You sound responsable enough to not let anything happen to it. But the above statements are correct, if something ever goes wrong its easy to have fixed...on the other hand, most memory has a lifetime warranty, hard drives also have long warranties on them, and the chip, wireless, bluetooth and etc are ALL easy to get to in the e1405...
In all likelyhood, if something is going to break, it will be in the 1st year...the most common parts that fail (in my opinion) is the hard drive....not sure how long Fujitsu's warranties are...i browsed their site some and gave up on a Serial # entry form to see how long a warranty is (like western digital does) and had no luck.
(after reading a little bit, i think Fujitsu's warranty is 3 years) -
Go for the 3 year with accidental coverage. You will want another laptop in 3 years anyway, you will be in college and technology will be different. It would be good timing. If you don't get 3, get 2. However, if you want it to last as long as possible get the 4 year complete care package. Then drop it on the 1459th day and tell them to send you a E14000005 as a replacement. =)
Haha, on a side note. My friend dropped my hp laptop a few years ago, it worked fine after, it sounded like it was dead. Lived for a few years, but then i think the mobo got fried somehow. -

i buy the warranty's so that when I sell them in 2 years, they are still warratied. This increases the selling price by 100-200 easily. plus I needed to pad my order to >$2000 to use the coupons, so the warranty seemed like a good idea.

I had my last Dell notebook for 4 years. The first 2 years, it was fine. In the 3rd year, the hard drive died and the LCD screen died. Both of these were replaced at no cost to me under warranty (I purchased the 3-year complete care). In this 4th year, my hard drive died but I was planning on having the notebook for only 4 years anyway so I just bought a new one. This one needs to last me for the next 4 years, so I got the 4 year complete care warranty. With Dells, I believe the warranty is very well worth the cost.

Pay for 1 additional year of warranty (2 total) & pay for your notebook with a creditcard. Many creditcards (Visa, AMEX, Mastercard) will automatically extend your warranty by another year, free of charge.
I honestly feel that there isn't really any point in purchasing anything longer than 2-3 years, because you'll probably want a new laptop in 18 months.
I personally go with the included one year warranty, and additonal year offered with Visa cards. I find myself frequently upgrading, most of the time before the warranty even expires.
