I'm about to pull the trigger on getting a E1405. My one hangup is the "TrueLife" screen. While I know it is better for colors, brightness, contrast, etc...I get really worried about the Reflectiveness and Glare.

Everytime I go into a store and look at the consumer notebooks with glossy screens, that bugs me. I'm planning on using mine either in a classroom environment (flourescent lights), or at home in various rooms and lighting.

When I customize the E1405, they don't even offer Matte screen anymore. I called Dell and they said they could...but it would have to be specially set-up by them for an order.

I plan on watching the occassional DVD and play occassional light game, but nothing graphically intensive. At the same time, I dont' want to get poor washed out look and bad resolution.

Any help on this? Does anyone have the E1405 with the Matte finish? Is it good?

    Thanks

I have the matte screen and I think that it's pretty good. Obviously the colors are not as vibrant when watching DVDs and stuff, but for me, I couldn't take the glare either.

My screen doesn't look washed out and the resolution is fine. When I checked out glossy screens at stores, I also did not like the glare and reflectiveness. In fact, it gave me a little headache after looking at them for too long. However, some people say that the glossy screens look nicer when you have them at home. I personally am fine with the matte screen.

If you go to Dealcatcher, you can find a good deal for a E1405 with a matte screen. Look under the Dell Home section at the bottom.
