I'm happy with my E1405. I have both the 6-cell and 9-cell batteries. I get around 3.5 hours with the 6-cell under normal usage and around 6-8 hours with the 9-cell. I'm very happy with the battery life and the size of the notebook. It is a little thicker and heavier than other competing notebooks with the 14.1" screen size, but I think the battery life and actual value of the Dell outweigh it's larger size.
As far as value goes, none can beat this machine comparatively configured. Dell offers most bang for the buck with this machine at 14.1". Some are unhappy with the screen and some are. I'm happy after I saw competing notebooks with the same problem (light leakage on the bottom). I would say go for it if you want a great value. Be aware of Dell's quirks though. -
what quirks are you talking about??
and which screen r u using im planning to opt for 14.1" WXGA + Ultrasharp With true Life(1480*900 resolution) -
Is it worth buying? Well, that of course depends on how much you're paying for it & what type of configuration you're getting for that price.
You can check Dell's website or see the review on this site for pictures. As far as weight goes, it is by no means light. About 5.5 lbs, almost 6 lbs with a 9-Cell. Add to that the weight of the AC Adapter, the weight of your bag and whatever else you might be carrying & you'll have yourself quite a load. -
I love it, good screen size, a little bit on the heavy side but not uncomfortable, great battery life, I love the keyboard.
The build quality is good, but a little bit much plastic and I don't like the white bumper.
Since the e1210 is now out, I would have compare the two. As e1210 is build with alloy casing with a camera and didicated graphics card, which are big plus. But trade off battery life, screen size.
The only thing I really don't like about the e1210 is the thick border around the screen (seems much thicker then e1405), which makes it look old and bulky. -
i have the e1405 w/ the truelife...
In my findings and opinion, you cannot find a better deal anywhere...just configure it w/ 512mb ram and order you another 512mb stick seperately and you'll be all good. -
Great laptop. Problems you "MAY" end up with are light leakage on the bottom of the screen, and a loud optical drive.
It's not a light laptop at all
E1405 or Inspiron 640m Users????
