I just received my E1405 yesterday. We got the matte screen (1200x800). Unfortunately, the screen has a fair amount of light leakage along the bottom.

More importantly, however, the screen makes a noticeable buzzing sound, which can be temporarily stopped by gently squeezing or twisting the screen. Has anyone else had this problem?

All dell's have more or less light leakage, it's a fact. You should contact support about that buzzing sound though

absolutely, 100%, not at all true.

my 15.4" wuxga is perfect; perfect light spread and no dead/stuck pixels.

in terms of "buzzing", i would say it's maybe something loose rattling from the HD or fan spinning vibration. there's nothing in the screen that should "buzz'. check for something loose or not snug.

    Thanks for the replies.

The buzzing is definitely coming from the screen. The buzzing gets louder if the screen brightness is adjusted to levels 2 thru 6 (out of 7) although it's still present at other brightness levels. My wife could hear the buzzing across the room.

I spoke with Dell tech support. They had me run various diagnostic tests. They initially thought it was the fan (it wasn't). They said it was an "unusual problem" and weren't sure what the cause was.

In the end, I decided to return the laptop because I wasn't happy with the screen quality in general, and this buzzing defect allowed me to return the laptop without having to pay for shipping or the restocking fee.

It's too bad because otherwise, I was satisfied with the laptop (especially it's price).

I just got a Dell D620 through work and it is making a loud buzzing noise and it is definitely coming from the middle of the LCD screen. Luckily we have Gold support.
