Hey, I finally have pictures of my E1405 matte screen.

The flash enhances the leakage, so it really looks worse than it is. These are with the flash...

    And this is without...

And close up shots of the screen...

Sorry, some of them are kinda blurry cuz I didn't use flash..but U get the picture.

NE1 have shots of their glossy screen??? :p

I checked the manufacturer of my matte screen by going to graphics properties and then checking under the notebook tab...I wasn't sure if the serial number is what tells u who made it...but mine is QDS0047. Sound familiar to anyone?

I just replaced the keyboard on my E1405 ... the old one was really clicky.

They are both made in china, but the keyboard that originally came with my E1405 had a different connector on the bottom, that was folded to make it go straight. Otherwise it had one or two turns as in the letter L and 7, if that makes sense. Folding it back on itself makes the bends cancel out.

This new keyboard i replaced it with is much less clicky. By clicky I mean making a "slap" noise when you type. It is a little more stiff, less "mushy" if you will. It is a much quieter keyboard, and has a more responsive feeling. I think this is because the springs are stiffer, and the keys rebound faster. The connector on it is straight, with no bends as in an "I". This keyboard came from an XPS.

I was going to replace the touchpad too but that's seemed like too much work.

So far I have been able to test, mix and match, to keep the best components so I got this:

Japanese 6 Cell Panasonic Battery over Chinese OEM Battery
    Toshiba-Samsung DVDRW over Sony/Lite-On DVDRW
Chinese Keyboard with Straight Connector over Chinese Keyboard with folded/bended connector
Fujitsu HDD (Hitachi was really loud)

Also single channel memory Mode vs Dual Channel Memory Mode did not make a difference in Super Pi (the only bench I have run so far)

I have a T2300. Base on Super Pi, this is much faster than my Athlon 64 desktop, though of course the graphics card is a big limiting factor. So I consider this a cheap laptop, but it's my fastest computer as of now.

If you have a "clicky" "slappy" and "mushy" keyboard, it is probably due to one of the crappier OEM keyboard manufacturer that Dell uses.

As far as I know, and according to Dell, the E1405 doesn't come with Ultrasharp, only TrueLife

Just curious, what does powerstrip say your screen is?

Also, what is the item-id #, and part #, for the screen on your invoice, if you don't mind providing that.

so far e1405 deserves to be bought only equiped with matte screen?
i read all the posts in this tread and i found that nobody likes truelife except only one guy with AUO screen.

I used to have Sony Vaio and now im going to buy e1405 but i wanted the glossy screen which i used to use on Vaio. Well im pretty disappointed from the truelife screen.

Both the Matte and Truelife have light leakage problems.

I am very happy with my unit (now a week old) If you are considering buying this notebook I highly suggest you don't read this forum because that is what I did. The problem was I read about every single little stupid problem and guess what...I was so crazy about em that I noticed each one when the laptop came and it ruined the suprise :( LOL honestly, if you do not read this forum you won't notice half of the miniscule problems haha.

On a more serious note, the laptop is great. Yes we all know pretty much all the 14.1" screens out there arent the greatest, but they are still very good and very vibrant. If you are considering this notebook vs. the e1505 or other similar 15.4" there is a big difference and if you appreciate asthetics and portability go with the e1405! :)

I like the e1405 just fine. Screen looks fine, despite the light leakage. And, its the perfect size. I used it all the way from Nashville to Seattle today, and it worked well. Worked quietly, and fit on the tray perfectly, even when the giant in front of me leaned his chair back.

I do agree to a certain extent. While I love these forums and the help I have received from the people here, they do make you notice a lot more about your computer. I never even really knew about light leakage until I got on here, and now I know that my computer has it. But it still doesn't bother me. But it still gets to you sometimes. I'm a little paranoid about the screen on my M90 that I just ordered, but Im' just hoping I won't notice any imperfections with it much.
