Anyone have one....????
If so, can you provide the Part Number and Rev from disk [not the sticky label on the CD sleeve]???
Thanks

P/N UF634 Rev A00
Only problem, no clue if its for the E1505, the Media Direct ReInstall that I got with it was the wrong one.

They should have sent you that disc when you ordered your XP disc. Any particular reason as to why you are trying to find it?

I have two of the Drivers and Utilities CD's, one I assume that was in the box with my XP MCE that I paid $10.- P/N Y2986 Rev A29 dated Feb 2006
- P/N UF634 Rev A00 dated Feb 2006
Hermit -
the A29 one seems like it would be for the 9300/6000 while the A00 is for the newer systems. I'm only suggesting this because of the BIOS numbering. When dell upgrades the BIOS, they +1 to the previous number, so it seems like the disc with 00 with be the newer disc. Just my two cents...
Any difference between the discs Hermit? -
I received the 'P/N Y2986 Rev A29 dated Feb 2006' disk even though the sleeve was marked as 'PN G3714 A30'
In comparing contents of disk with available Dell downloads...
Except for the Ricoh ChipSet driver... Nothing else is current... There was not a copy of the 945GM driver on the disk, etc etc
I can understand a 'few' being not up-to-speed, but all of them [or nearly so]???? Figured, maybe the wrong disk... Hence the question.
Except for the diagnostics.... not of much use.
Given Dell's track record so far [with me anyway] thought it was wrong media...
Thanks

That's pretty normal. The driver's disc is usually made with the first set of drivers that were released for that system, and then the current ones are on the website.
The drivers disc will contain all of the drivers for the E1505 whether they match your laptop or not.
The 945GM should be under chipset. -
Just got done installing the CD, just to see....
E1505 is not listed in the "System Model" dropdown menu. We got things like.... "MXC051, ME051, MXG051, and various Inspirons [600m, 700m, 710m, 9300 6000 2200], but nothing looking like it belongs to me....
Hmmmm.....
Mark
ps Nothing under chipset for Intel graphics.... Did have a listing under the Video Drivers, but everything was for the 915GM -
LOL, yeah it would make sense that it was under the video card since it is the video driver. I was thinking of the chipset drivers for intel. Sorry.

So drivers and utilities, I know what a driver is, what pray tell is a utility in Dell speak?
I'm 90% certain I have the real MediaDirect 2.0 ReInstall CD on its way, just no tracking number yet, shipped today according to Dell's order number.
Hermit -
Now did Dell send it or did you pay $10 too?

In browsing forums elsewhere found reference to a E1705???? Drivers and Utilities Disk with P/N UD526 Rev A00
I can probably make do fine without, I suppose. Just want to 'round-out' my tool box.
I'm going to 'poke' Dell to see what they have to say on the topic...
Mark
ps.... My disk came with the computer along with XP MCE disk and the WordPerfect disk... Dell got my $10 -
I have very little idea of what you guys are talking about, even after reviewing this thread a couple times, but it still concerns me. To get the jist of what you are saying, You have been sent the wrong driver and utilties disk from dell...and you are not the only one? Does this mean that the machine will be unoperable or maybe not at its peak. Also you guys were talking about a $10 fee for this CD, does this 10$ charge covered my Windows XP reinstallation disk? Basically, how concerned should I be about what you guys are talking about and what precautions should I take to ensure a good working E1505 when it arrives on my doorstep?
-
Most likely you ordered your E1505 with WinXP MCE. The $10 bought you the Dell, not Microsoft, XP MCE reinstallation DVD, CD's too small. With it will come a D & U CD, if Dell hasn't figured it out yet, that CD will be worthless to you. So be sure to DL the drivers from Dell beforehand.
Since you'll likely want to retain MediaDirect, read the MD threads for several cautions. Do NOT totally reformat your HD or you will be in Dell chat hell trying to obtain the MD reinstall CD.
Welcome to the adventures of Dell forum.

Well.... couple of things.
Most recent chat they said they are sending P/N XF088.... The saga continues.
Hoping it is better than what they sent over the weekend... N7174 Which [the best I can gather] is an OLD application CD circa Jul '04
re....
All you'll need to do is occasionally review your Dell-unique software/drivers for updates, just as you would for Microsoft software.
It is only when you get to 'tinkering' that you need to start getting in the 'guts' [so to speak]...
My one 'safety' recommendation would be to consider an external hard drive to backup critical files from your main laptop hard drive. They aren't all that expensive and good insurance. Another option [assuming you have a second computer] is to shuttle your critical files off to your secondary system.
Just a thought....

I know some of you might not have highspeed, but if you do, all of the drivers that are located on that disc are located at support.dell.com . Usually that site has the most current and updated drivers.
You should be able to call dell and request the correct CD. I don't really have an explanation as to why they screwed up. You can also burn a copy of your drivers folder if you haven't formatted yet. After you format, you can copy the folder back and most of the drivers should detect and install.
Personally, I wouldn't be concerned about the disc unless you don't have a highspeed connection. I have only used the disc one time and that was because I forgot to get my networking driver. If you download/save a copy of your drivers from the site, you can make your own disc which will be current.

Okay, so you are saying that I should go on to the dell website and dl the drivers and such. Lets say I dowlnoad the drivers, will it be a .zip or .exe because I'm wondering how am I going to burn it as a CD so that my E1505 will recognize it after I have reformated it and reinstalled Windows XP. Does it need to be in a certain format. You also said that I could just "drag" the drivers on to the computer from the CD, where is it that I should drag these drivers. What directory do you think this would be in?
-
Most of them are .exe files. When you download them, instead of choosing run, you select save. This will save the .exe file to your HDD, then you can transfer all of those files to a disc. When you are done formatting, you insert the disc, and run each file from the disc. This will install the driver on the HDD.
As for the dragging method, there is a folder on each Dell laptop that has the drivers in it. Normally the folder is located on the C: drive under dell or drivers. You copy this to a disc, and after you format, you drag it back to the C: drive (location is your choice - as long as it is on the same partition as your XP). When the folder is on your computer, most of the drivers should self install. I've noticed a few times that some of the drivers didn't install, but you can right click on the hardware and tell it to update the driver. It should find your driver and install it without any problems. This method most likely will not have the most current drivers, so that's why I suggested to download them if you have a high speed connection. -
Okay, I'm pretty sure I got everything you said and am completely ready (downloaded all the drivers) for when my E1505 is here. The only problem I think I have is the partion you were talking about:
you drag it back to the C: drive (location is your choice - as long as it is on the same partition as your XP).
I was under the impression that when I reformat my computer I am asked which partitions to remove, and that I should remove the Main partition and just leave the Dell Media Direct partition, (not sure about the Dell Driver partition, I was just going to keep it). So when I drag over those files, am I supposed to drag them into the Dell drivers partition, and how do I know if that is part of it? -
If you are planning a reinstallation of XP from CD your steps would be along the lines of....
Using your XP CD -- reinstall the OS to the SAME partition that held the original. Look at the sizes of the partitions to help determine which one is your XP partition. Should be the biggest one.
Once the install of XP is complete... then you will install the drivers.
I would keep it simple and just install them from the CD you create from your downloads. There is a preferred installation order floating around somewhere....
I can't vouch for this one...
1. OS Service Packs
2. Notebook System Software
3. Chipset Driver
4. Video Driver
5. Communications Driver
6. Input Drivers
7. Audio Drivers
8. Miscellaneous Drivers
Check for Microsoft updates
Reinstall whatever applications you want/desire
That should get you close.
Hope folks will amend/correct/add as needed

Looks like the one delivered with the laptop [Disk sleeve ID G3714 A30; Disk ID P/N Y2986 Rev A29] was meant for 6000/9300 series [As SouthernGirl advised].
So.... If you need to ask Dell for a Resource CD for the E1505... Ask for P/N XF088 [At least for the moment]
As of 8 May 06 it appears that UD526 Rev A03 is the more recent disk
