I have reinstalled Windows on my Dell E1505 but I did not delete the 39mb Media Direct partition. How do I restore functionality of the Media Direct button as the separate OS without destroying my current data.?

I have tried to read the previous thread on this topic but I still dont understand. Am i suppose to use "Repair" or "Reinstall"?

You're going to download the MediaDirect Repair utility from here & burn it to a CD. Instructions are included with the file.

    Instructions from Dell:
I tried to provide a direct link to the download page, but it wouldn't work. So just go to http://support.dell.com & go to the "Drivers & Downloads" page for the E1505. From there, look under Applications & select the Dell MediaDirect Repair Utility.

You need to repair Media Direct. Go to support.dell.com and enter your laptop info in. Once you get to the driver's page, you'll find the Repair Utility under "Applications" Download this file.

Run the file and it will create a folder. Then it will pop up with directions in your default internet browser as j4y said. I would print or write down these directions out if you can because you are going to have to reboot in order to repair Media Direct.

You'll have to burn the .iso file to a disc. If you have never burned an .iso file before, here is a webpage that gives some tips. http://www.petri.co.il/how_to_write_iso_files_to_cd.htm

Once you get the .iso file burned, you are ready to reboot and follow the remaining directions.

The 39MB partition is a Dell utility, it has nothing to do with Media Direct. Having said that, it very good you did not delete this partition, its position in the partition table is critical for the repair.

You want to Repair MD. The actual MD code is on a HPA of your HD. All you are doing is setting a pointer to MD on the HPA.

Simply download the MD repair from Dell, burn a bootable CD per the instructions and run the repair. This CD is equivalent to a bootable floppy, just on a CD.

And fwiw... If you have the correct Dell Drivers and Utilities CD the Repair utility is located in the md2 directory/folder. Just pop the CD in the drive and reboot.

This post will give you an idea of what happens....

    Thanks All

I have succeessful restored the instant on, MediaDirect button feature using repair.

Does anyone know if I can get the Dell Media Experience? I have installed Win XP Pro instead of MCE. Or can I make the MediaDirect button launch a different problem?

You can download it from support.dell.com. It is on the drivers page under applications. As far as i know you can't program the button to start a different program.

Best bet is to ask Dell to send you the "Application" CD [PN N7174]. Among other things it has R77061 Dell Media Experience Rev A04 [DMX] on it.

I don't think you can download it.... SG is speaking to the Dell MediaDirect Repair Utility.

    Glad you got everything working....
