Not exactly a 'lab' quality test, but thought some might be interested.

Was curious about how long I could watch DVD on a fully charged 6-cell battery.

With full brightness on display [see sig for specs] got 2hrs

With brightness set at 2 levels above minimum got around 2.4 hrs

This was using Windows and not MediaDirect [haven't gotten around to 'fixing' it yet after my re-partition]

Anyway, thought I'd pass that along.

Guess I won't be watching Lord of the Rings The Two Towers [Extended Edition] at one sitting. :D

Well you can probably extend that buy shutting off AV and running it in media-direct. If you can post what you get in Media-direct, that would be awesome. :)

I'm kinda curious on that one myself.

Still need to figure out for sure what I need in the way of partitions and disks in order to 'fix' MediaDirect.

Lot's of to and fro in the 'big' MediaDirect thread to wade thru.

Anyway... I'll be glad to post results when I get them.

Anyone with a 9-cell to compare notes????

Finally got around to looking at this again.

MediaDirect with full bright screen and 'normal' audio levels got me an extra 20min of viewing time... From 2 hrs to 2 hrs 20 min

Still not sure how accurate this is as there are so many variables esp when it comes to power management in Windows.

Anyway, thought I'd pass this along.

    Hrm ONLY 20 mins...? *Blink*

Thats kinda pointless to go media direct then... odd...

Also was Wifi and so turned off?

wrt Windows, no I just went with what was 'out of the box' in terms of power management settings and left all devices 'enabled'.

Try Media one again with the options setup, see what kinda max life you can get from that. Think we all like to hear about that one if its really better to boot up in that mode or not.

Also.. does the MCE2005 remote work on the dell media center?

Hmmm... not sure what you addressing here??? Is there something in MediaDirect to 'configure'?? Last I looked I didn't see anything there pertaining to power options.

    Mark,

First, I don't agree that an extra 20 min. is pointless. As to the difference, for sure its WiFi and maybe the HDD.

In either case the DVD has to run and the LCD backlight plus the CPU, three big power draws.

I liked MD for the front buttons and didn't have to load a DVD application. But, truth be known, still haven't played a full DVD since I got the E1505. Shows how big a movie fan Hermit's are!!! ;)

    Thanks for the test.

All I know is that the battery life of each module is not the same (running under the same condition), I got 2 brand new 9 cell batteries, one lasts about 4.5 hrs on a full charge while the other fully charged battery gives me about 4 hrs.

def wifi; in addition to being ON, any data pushed or pulled through drains the battery quite quickly.

i.e, if you're DLing something on battery, it will drain much quicker than if you just have the card on, but aren't connecting to the internet.
