I'm trying to configure on of these and am wondering about 2 things.

    1. Will I notice a significant increase in speed of loading programs with the 7200?

    2. Will there be significantly increased noise and heat?

    Thanks!

The 5400RPM does hang a bit more.

The 7200RPMs do run a bit warmer.

    1. You will notice a significant increase in loading times with the 7200RPM drive (about 15-20 percent) when compared with a 5400RPM drive.

    2. It depends on the maker of the HD, but usually you'll only notice a slight increase in HD noise and heat. You will notice a decreased battery life though - the 7200RPM drive will shave off about 15-25 minutes of battery life.
