I have the E1505 with the T2500 2ghz core duo chip, 2gb ram, and the sigmatel audio card.

Every now and then the audio seems to be slurred with my laptop. Most noticeably when Windows plays the logon sound or when receiving instant messages (the IM sound).

I reformatted the pc the day i recieved it, and everything seems to be running fine except for the wifi card, which is another issue...

I updated the audio driver the other day through dell's support site to the latest release, but the problems still seems to be here.

    Any fixes or similar problems?

I don't know if this will help or not, but some users complianed that the Audigy software was causing problems. Once they removed it or didn't use it, the sound returned to normal.

it's not abnormal for the windows start up sound to mess up since it's loading all kinds of stuff at the time.

(who doesn't turn all their windows sounds off anyway?)

re: the IM sounds, i don't know, but those are way annoying too.

What audigy software are you talking about? I don't have the Creative card, if that makes a difference.

Have you installed the correct drivers for your Sigmatel onboard audio? Even if you have, try re-installing them and see if it changes the slurring behavior.

Also make sure you don't have any process running in the background that are taxing your computer.

If nothing else sounds bad other than Windows sounds and instant messaging, you could just turn off all Windows sounds and IM sounds aren’t really needed most of the time.

LOL, sorry, I misread your post. I thought you mentioned something about buying the extra software.

I would reinstall the drivers if i were you. Also, there is a Creative audigy ADVANCED HD driver in Dell's driver site for e1505/6400. i wonder what it is and if it is the same as the upgrade for the sound system during purchase.

AFAIK, it is the same that is offered when you purchase the system. I'm not 100% sure why they are offering it on the site, but I would guess that they are doing that now in case you lose the disc or want to upgrade in the future.

I bought the same setup about 2 weeks ago and have had this very problem since I took it out of the box. It was driving me insane.

Called dell tech support and they had me reinstall the drivers a few times, format a few times. Nothing worked.

So they sent out a repair technician with a new motherboard. Fixed it right up.

I hope you got the "at home" warranty, good luck.

SMASH IT WITH A HAMMER!! Mine also distorts the sound when it boots up, but it is because I have to many processors trying to boot up at the same time.
