I made my first data DVD's yesterday, backing up RAW photo files. Good news, worked w/o a hitch using Nero 6.6. Bad news, a bit slow. I have the Sony DW-Q58A drive in my E1505.

    Some numbers:
    I burned 2 DVD's, a -R and a +R, both were 44xxMB, maximum according to Nero is 4483MB. I used 16X media, Ritek and Verbatim.
The Ritek +R took 14 min including lead in/out.
The Verbatim -R took 13 min.

By comparison, my NEC 3520A will burn full DVD's in 6 min flat, ~10 sec more for the +R over the -R. I was expecting the internal 8X DVD burner to be a bit under 12 min, so I was surprised/dissapointed at the slow burn speeds.

To the best of my knowledge, XP MC will NOT burn data DVD's, only home movies?

Correct, Windows (any flavor) will only burn data CD's, not DVD's.

My NEC 3520A will burn a full DVD in about 13 min. when burning at 8x, so the Sony is in the same ballpark. I rarely burn at 16x, I've found I get a better quality burn at 12x with 16x media. The testing is done using Nero's Quality Scan in Nero Tools.
