    fwiw....

Connected external monitor to E1505 to see what resolutions were supported/present.

    800 x 600 [SVGA] 4:3
    1024 x 768 [XGA] 4:3
    1152 x 864 [XGA+] 4:3
    1280 x 720 [HDTV; 720P] 16:9
    1280 x 768 [WXGA] 15:9
    1280 x 1024 [SXGA] 15:4

For those [like me] that were '...just curious'

with the intel gma950, can you have the laptop screen and the external monitor turned on at the same time and having different opened windows on both screens?

Yes... you can 'span' the desktop across both monitors.

Right click desktop on your laptop; Select "Properties"; Select "Settings" tab; Select/click the '2' monitor graphic in the grey box; 'Check' the "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor"

Don't forget to set the screen resolution you want for the second '2' monitor

The 950GMA can support up to 1920 x 1200 resolution with an external monitor.

Yes... Should have qualified my post as to that's with the monitor I used for my 'experiement'.

Saw a 'blurb' on the Intel site that it could go up to as much as 2048 x 1536 [QXGA 4:3] but don't know of any monitors along those lines...

    Something like a Dell 2005FPW [1680 x 1050] or even better a 2405FPW [1920 x 1200] should work nicely.

If you want to drive a 3007WFP [2560 x 1600] you'll be out of luck. But if anyone has one they'd like me to try... just send it over. I'll get it right back... I promise. ;)

    Thanks for the 'correction'

    Mark,

    Terriffic thread, thanks.

I've got my eye on one of those Dell widescreens. Would compliment the E1505 nicely. Any idea on a quality flexible cable, the 1505 will be on my lap?

BTW, it your first post, last item, you show 15:4, probably meant 5:4.

That's for one of those really high aspect ratio displays... :D

Can't provide any thoughts wrt cables...

May want to think about KVM cables/switch.
