Had an E1505 for a few years now, and with the exception of a HD failure/subsequent replacement, it's been absolutely great.

Recently though, it gave me the error message "adapter not recognized, blah, blah, blah" message upon POST...

Tried a different adapter as well, but no luck. It runs off the adapter(s) just fine, but won't charge, so I'm permanently attached to a cord until I get this fixed.

I'm assuming it's the DC power jack?

If so, how difficult is it to replace??

    Thanks!

From what I've read, the fairly widespread "adapter not recognized" problem is usually caused for a failure in communication between an identification chip in the PSU, and a similar chip on the notebook motherboard. Sometimes this is caused by a failure of the PSU chip, sometimes it's caused by the failure of the motherboard chip, and sometimes it's caused by a poor connection in the power jack.

You've already isolated the problem to the motherboard chip or the power jack... I'd say if you can't get the AC adapter recognized by toggling the plug in the jack, it's probably a failure of the motherboard chip, and you'll have to have the motherboard replaced.

Had the same problem with mine. Make sure the adapter is the same wattage. A new adapter did the trick for me. I had to try a couple different ones before I got it right. I went the cheap route and bought a no name adapter but had no luck. Found a refurbished Dell one on ebay and it works great. Good luck!
