Ok, I understand the difference between the two resolutions but I don't know which one to configure on my E1505. Mainly I am stuck with a x1400 video card which limits my gaming quite considerably. What I am wondering is .. Is the SXGA screen upgrade nice enough to warrent the upgrade over the XGA knowing full well it will put a larger strain on the graphics card?

The ONLY games I am going to be playing on this are ...
First and foremost, World of Warcraft. More than anything!

    Also the occational UT2k4, CS:S, Warcraft3.

But my question I guess applies directly to WoW. Will the x1400 be able to handle 1680x1050?

I wish I could look at the two screens side by side to help me decide but thats the disadvantage to buying online. I am stuck, basically only relying on others experiences and reports.

    Sharper, brighter, higher resoultion

    vs.

    Better Performance

Get your self the SXGA, oh and the X1400 is not as bad as u may think, I can run CS:S on High with a Widescreen resolution of 1280*800 (6:10).

WoW if I am right is not a hugely demanding game so you should be set to run it at Med/High or so.

I can even run FEAR on High (CPU) and Medium (GPU), and Battlefield 2 on Medium but I can run it on high no problems.

Many people underestimate the power of the X1400.

The X1400 does not limit your gaming much. It'll run pretty much any modern game (except maybe oblivion) at the native resolution of an SXGA screen, except you'll probably have to turn the settings to medium. Hell, even an integrated Xpress200 runs WoW pretty well.

I'm on a xpress200 lappy atm and it runs WoW @ 1280x800 at around 20fps and it dips into the teens quite a bit. This is at the lowest settings but XGA native. I am not really happy with that performance and I am just afriad the SXGA screen would cause me to experience that same poor performance.

I appreciate the comments so far guys. The only way to really answer this question is to get you guy's feedback.

How much dedicated memory does your xpress200 have? I've seen my friend play WoW on his HP dv8000z which has an xpress200 with 128mb dedicated memory, and the gameplay seemed smoother than 20 fps to me. But then again, I don't have actual numbers to back that up with, and watching a game might feel different than playing the game.

I think it's 64mb shared? I am not really sure it's not my laptop. I am actually using a loaner atm. It's a Gateway 6421 which is like Turion 64 1.6ghz, 200m graphics.

I am going to try upgrading to Cat 6.8 on this particular setup right now because I just noticed the drivers on it are from 2005.
