When I tilt the screen toward the keyboard, it blacks out. I think it then goes into hibernation or something. My past laptop didn't have this "feature." Where/How is the behavior of the lid controlled?

Unrelated, when I installed XP today, one dialog asked for my name and company, I typed in "1" just to keep going. Now when I install software the "1" is automatically inserted. Where do I change these fields?

    Thanks,
    Hermit

The behavior of the lid is controlled via Dell QuickSet, accessible through Start->Programs->Dell QuickSet->Quickset->Power Wizard.

As for the registration name/company - not sure of the "official" way to change it, but RegScrubXP, aside from being the best Registry Cleaner around, gives you the option to change this (and a whole bunch of other stuff) through its Misc menu option. It can be downloaded here:

    Hope this helps.

The registered name is easy to change, you have to do it in the Windows Registry.

Hit START, click RUN, type in REGEDIT and click OK

When the registry opens up you'll see a list on your left, the first one you want to drop down is

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

From the list that drops down you then drop down...

    \SOFTWARE

    Then...

    \Microsoft

    then...

    \Windows NT

    finaly...

    \CurrentVersion

Click on the Current Version one so it is highlighted.

To your right you'll see a list of crazy looking to you values. The 2 you want to edit are over there and called...

    "RegisteredOwner"

    "RegisteredOrganization"

    Yours will look like:

    RegisteredOwner REG_SZ "1"

Just right click it and choose EDIT

Change the "1" to what ever you want.

    Close the Registry Editor

(Don't get overly curious in there and start changing things unless your 100% sure you know what your changing)
