My E1505 is having a problem. When I leave the computer on I have the screen set to turn off after about 10mins. Well if I leave it like this for more then about 15 min when I try and get back onto the computer I can not. The computer is still on but the screen dose not come back on. I have the same problem if I close the screen and leave it on when I go and open it back up the computer is still on but again the screen is not on. Anyone have any ideas oaf how to fix this problem?
Thanks,
Adam

Has it gone into standby mode???? (thats my guess). Check your power settings

if could be a software/driver issue. Are you running windows MCE? It is well documented that users of MCE have standby issues. I have MCE and I have issues too.

The computer came with MCE but I installed Pro. It is not in standby. I am sure of that. The only way I have found to get the screen to come back on is to hold down the power button and force the computer to turn off.

If I'm online with AOL my screen saver continues to function. Other than that, if I'm off line or have IE or FireFox open it will go into what I guess is stand-by but I only have to touch the power button without re-booting.
Check your power schemes. Portable/laptop
Plugged in: - Turn off monitor:never, Turn off system disks:20 minutes, Standby:25 minutes, hibernate:never
Battery:never, 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours.
Screen saver:10 minutes -
I have the same issue. Solution:
1) READ the manual, it says, in stand by mode, press On/Off button. I don't have my user manual here, but later I'll tell you the page.
2) If you have WinXP PRO, press the MediaDirect Button, the ERROR Dialog box will popup and the screen will be turned on again. -
Thanks. I knew about the stand by thing but not the MediaDirect one. I will give it a try later tonight when I am done with the computer for a while. -
The media direct button did not work. Any other ideas of what I should try.

Try updating your video card driver as well as flashing your BIOS. I can't gurantee that one of those will provide the solution, but its worth a try

Alright I will give it a shot.

Hmmm....
I've had this problem with my E1705 - it occurs sporadically with my notebook. The only remedy that I've found was closing my lid again and then opening it back up. However, I'd try SGs suggestion and see if that makes a difference for you. -
This is what my Dell Owner Manual PDF says at page 42:
To enter standby mode:
Click the Start button, click Turn off computer, and then click Stand by.
or
Depending on how you set the power management options on the Advanced tab (see "Configuring Power Management Settings" on page 43) in the Power Options Properties window, use one of the following methods:
Press the power button.
Close the display.
Press <Fn><Esc>.
>>>> To exit standby mode, press the power button or open the display depending on how you set the options on the Advanced tab. You cannot make the computer exit standby mode by pressing a key or touching
the touch pad. -
I installed the updated drivers to no avail. I know the computer is still on and running not in stand by. The fans are still on and all of the lights are on. I have figured that I can put it into standby (use Fn and esc key) and then hit the power button and the screen will come back. Any other help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Adam
