I got this machine a month ago, works great.

but, recently, i realize that the screen isnt as stiff when its open, it likes to wobble around a little bit.

Right now, it really isnt a problem, but I am concerned that it will develop into a problem with the screen not being able to stay open at the angle that I want.

Are there any screws that i can get to? Any way to fix it if it develops into an issue?

Should be some screws, I read about it before, download a tech manual, should show you where they are and so.

But yea, My screen used to HAVE to take 2 hands to open up. Now its one hand. Although I dont have any wobble issues in my 2 months of time. I hope it doesnt get that way either.. cause I would be annoyed if you always had to screw screw screw and wear the threads out and so.. glad I have the 3 yr warrenty.

yeah, it's not unusual for that to happen. i believe you can retension it. dell.com has very complete guides online for ripping your computer apart.

Just as the others said, it is a common problem. I usually tighten my screws about every 3-4 months because I don't like my screen to wobble at all. You can go to support.dell.com , enter your service tag number in and instead of selecting drivers & downloads (in the 3rd box) choose User Guides & manuals. This will take you to your service manual which can be viewed in html or pdf format.

Do what I did. Call customer service and tell them you screen is wobbling and u need replacement hinges. You would have to know how to disassemble the screen from the cover in older to install them. I tried to live with it but one day it just gave up and would not stand up.

Mine wobbles just a little..looking at the lid its barely noticable, but with the Glossy screen the reflections give it away.

Mine's been like this for a few weeks and I've only had my 6400 for a few months. I was going to start a thread, but found this one!

My screen stays in the position I set it to and is still quite stiff to open, but not as stiff as when I first got it. There is a bit of play in it when it's open, I can move the screen back and forth a couple of centimetres from its set position, I guess this is what has been described as the "wobble."

It's not too bad and doesn't affect the screen's position, but is poor quality; the 1300's screen is very sturdy and doesn't have any play in the screen.

If you want it to be a perment fix, so that you dont have to go back every few months and re-tighten everything, go to your local hardware store and pick up a dollar tube of loctight. Put a little on the screw and a little in the hole and it will never losen again, unless you stick a screwdriver in there and turn hard, but it will hold. Now this is what I think sets the XPS's apart from the other dells as far as build quality. Before I got my replacement 1210 I took my old on entirly apart, just for fun and so I would be familir with if for future refrence. Every screw I took out, besides the memory door, HDD and Optical screws were already loctighted. So that my be one thing that you get with an XPS, but yeah its an easy fix.
