Just got a new E1505 with the highest grade screen I could get. WSXGA+ TrueLife or whatever Dell calls it.

I have played a couple DVDs and while the resolution is nice, the screen seems overly dark. Shadows in the movie come out very dark, and it is sometimes hard to see detail in darker portions of the scene.

I tried turning on the TigerVision option or whatever it is called. It is suppoed to dynamically adjust the contrast. This helps marginally.

Does anyone else see this when playing a DVD? Is there any other contrast adjustment on this screen?

I have looked at high-res photos, and they look fine.

    Thanks.

I cant even play DVDs yet since I reformated and lost Decoders. Dell is sending me some, hopefully not charging me. I will let you know when I get them.

If it is too dark, you can try to change the brightness manually by going to the advanced properties of your display settings.

Display properties -> settings -> advanced button -> Color Tab

When using the battery, The brightness of the LCD is automatically scaled down to lessen power consumption, Try adjusting the brightness and see what works well.

Mine works great. Remember true blacks is something that we are not accustomed to anymore with the new fangled high definition TVs. Many are just dark grey. So our eyes are not use to deep blacks which makes this screen outstanding!

Have you tried increasing the brightness directly from your keyboard.... FN + Up Arrow Key...
