Man oh man, the worst has come. I put a DVD+RW in my e1505, and the drive just says that it is blank cd, however when we stick it into my roomates e1705, it works fine. I have a TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L532B, and when I contacted dell, he gave me a driver that was made in May, but the error still persists when I insert a DVD. Do I have to configure something in Windows, because Windows Media and the microsoft interface in microsoft windows only sense it as a blank cd, but Sonic finds it as a DVD+RW but If i burn with that then I cannot re-record, which kind of defeats the purpose. How do I get windows to know it is a DVD+RW? Thank you for reading, please help.

I have the EXACT same DVD writer as you. Make sure you have the most up-to-date firmware and just pray. About 1/3 DVD's or CD's I burn with this DVD writer will end up corrupted. I tried contacting Dell (via email) and they just sent me an email that listed stuff I already knew. Go figure.

TssT DVD burns stuff with 1/3 successful chance??? My friend has one in her laptop. I have to check this writer out. Btw, DVD+RW is not very widely use so i recommended you to go back to DVD-R , there're some good deals out there 15$ for 50 pack. NOte: Sony DVD burner in dell laptop won't burn DVD +R only read it. That's the problem for me when i purchased a 100pack DVD+R. Luckily i have an external burner that works with DVD+R. phewww...

2nd- Complain with dell through email and tell them that u have a defective burner, they'll send u new parts for replacement.

you should call back dell cust care and try not to talk to the indian guy (i hate hating since im one of them)... tell him to immediately forward you to advanced technical care or the supervisor whoever... then explain to him that this drive is defective and other people with this drive have the same problems tell him to a) either ship you another drive or b) ship you another laptop and be assertive, and if he doesn't want to help you immediately ask for his supervisor... if you sound like your serious and you seriously have a problem... they will respect you more and give you what you want. if they ask you to send yours in, tell them you are a business professional and you need your laptop everyday, or if you'd rather send it in to be changed do that! don't get angry just be assertive... and each supervisor that u go up has greater authority to do stuff... jus remember that...

I thought I did upgrade to the latest firmware, but oh well. If you could give me the link to the firmware that you installed SciFi Mike, then maybe I can compare it to the firmware installed on my machine. Also, the brand of DVD+RW's I'm burning is Memerox, are they a brand you burn with often?

Contact dell, cause i had a TSST drive in my e1505... would take an hour and a half turn burn a data dvd and then it spit out coasters. I had them send me a new drive (NEC, works great) and I also got rid of that Sonic software, cause that was contributing to the problem.

I had a refurb NEC drive from dell that couldnt burn anything, that was supposed to replace my Sony drive which had a few hiccups with memorex media, I just bought a different brand of discs and my Sony sometimes has coasters, but only if i multitask while its burning. I ended up giving them back the drive they sent me to replace.

I guess its the luck of the draw, everyone says NEC is great but the NEC drive dell sent me was crap, so now I dont know what to believe in, perhaps if i had a brand new NEC drive, it would have worked better

I know it might be a long shot, but try using different burning software, cause i know sonic is crap. Ashampoo Burning Studio 6 is free to try, give it a whirl and see if its a software problem.
