I'm new and have searched the threads to try to find my answer, but my problem is hard to describe in the search field.

I have an Inspiron E1505, and it has had it's share of problems. As of now, I am on my 2nd HDD, ram, LCD, Optical Drive, Invertor, top/bottom case, battery, and a few other issues. After replacing the case and putting everything back together, my laptop looked and ran like new, but when I would unplug the charger, the computer would die, not immediately, but within a few minutes. I used to be able to run my computer without the charger until the battery hit about 40%, then it would die. Then it was about 80%, and now it dies soon after unplugging it. Even when booting without the AC, it would die right after a full boot. The computer makes a "click" noise, then the lights go out, and the screen fades to black.

My battery was new last year, and is still under warranty if that is the problem. I assumed it was the issue, but would like to know if there are any tests I can run to pinpoint the problem, or if anyone else has experienced this.

I ran the diagnostics off of the boot menu and my one error was DST-0142 as well, but I do not know if that is related to my issue.

    Thanks in advance!

I'd second that you just got a dud battery... if you can use HWMonitor or RMClock to look up the current capacity of the battery (or at least what the battery thinks it's current capacity is), it may or may not confirm the issue.

Well, the battery seems to think it's healthy... can you monitor it and see what the "current capacity" is right before the machine shuts down?

The current capacity was at about 77000 mWh when the battery died, however, the Current Voltage was dropping about .2 V every 5 seconds. When the Current Voltage hit 11 V, the laptop died. Does that mean anything?

Thanks again for taking time to help!

Still think it's a dud battery. See if you can get it replaced? I suppose if that doesn't solve the problem, then there's something wrong with the machine...

I sent the battery in as it was still under the factory warranty, and they confirmed the battery was a dud. I have the new battery in, and it reads 88822 mWh at full capacity and gives me the full 5+ hours of battery life and doesn't die :)

Thanks for the help, just thought I would let you know it was the battery.
